In short: Cold, wet, windy but excellent! In full: Bleak conditions on the day made this event far more challenging than last year!
The rain and sleet was falling horizontally at some stages and I could have foregone the morning shave with all the hail coming down.
But regardless, the fast pace and morale-boosting 250m markers make this a very enjoyable race. The fast track makes for great PB potential.
Having arrived at the venue in plenty of time I didn't experience any parking frustrations and in my opinion the marshalls did a great job all on the day. Always a nice touch to have the announcer on the finishing line, albeit half drowned.
The race is also excellent value, with a smart tee and a quality race medal. So, all round, a big vote of confidence from me - a great event! Date of review: March 29, 2008
In short: Highly recommended bumpy country run! In full: Excellent, highly enjoyable race, beautiful scenery and a great opportunity to run in the countryside early in the year. Only gripe was the medals being labelled with the 2007 race date. Date of review: February 24, 2008
In short: Scenic hilly challenge with Jaffa Cakes across the finish line In full: My first time at Barbury and a thoroughly enjoyable race.
The first hill is a killer and it was too easy to get caught up in the push for the title of King of the Hill. Once you reach the top however there is some brilliant scenery to keep you interested whilst regaining your breath and avoiding sheep. The mid-way point sees a complete change in the terrain - from grass fields to a short section of boggy mud and narrow field-side tracks. The final mile is another thigh-aching climb followed by rolling fields and dips.
Staggering over the line it was a welcome sight to see plentiful Jaffa cakes and Lucozade hydrate gel packs. An excellent race, great atmosphere, almost instant race results and a definite recommend from me!
My only tiny gripe is that after climbing the start and finish hills I felt like I deserved some kind of medal. I would even have sacrificed a Jaffa cake for one. Date of review: June 8, 2007
In short: Another warm one at Fairford In full: My second time around at Fairford and almost as hot as 2006!
Lovely scenery, great atmosphere and all the better for a 10am start time. The two hills provide a good challenge and from start to finish the race was very enjoyable!
My only complaint on the organisation was the decision to start the 3K fun run at around 11am when all the finished 10K runners were trying to make their way back to the car park. I suggest changing the start time next year!
Also results on the website a bit quicker would be welcome.
Otherwise I would highly recommend this event. Date of review: June 4, 2007
