In short: Excellent event really well organised with a nice atmosphere
In full: This was a smashing new event, and the Friday evening date was genius ! Parts of the course were just a little too muddy for this road runner, but given the recent monsoon weather, this was just bad luck. Well done to the organisers - keep it small and friendly, and everyone will be back next year.

In short: Excellent event despite the torrential storm half way round
In full: This was a great event - canal towpaths, water park, country lanes and and excellent run back in to the finish. The heavens opened up after about 6km, but that was OK. Shame there were no distance markers as promised, but overall an excellent event.

In short: Pleasant way to spend a Saturday evening
In full: Excellent mix of paths and tracks, with just enough tarmac to keep me happy, especially the long downhill section towards the finish. Not as muddy as some expected thanks to the excellent drainage after earlier dry spells - challenging hills especially in the first half. Note to organisers - I now have SIX horse brasses all the same. Can we have something different in 2008 please ?

In short: The most scenic road race in the Midlands !
In full: A wonderful race around country lanes, through scenic villages and past timber framed cottages. Reasonably hilly, and the weather was warm again this year, but I guess my major reason for struggling was that this was my 15th race in 29 days. Excellent organisation - shame about the over officious timekeepers who apparently disqualified the runner-up because he jumped the start by half a second. On a 9 mile road race - come on ?

In short: Excellent race spoilt by the high fee and no award
In full: An excellent race which includes running through the town full of spectators (OK they're waiting for the carnival procession, but for five minutes we can dream of being stars). Weather was unbelievably hot for the second year I have run it, but the start/finish area is wonderful for relaxing and for spectators. Last year the goody bag included a tub of isotonic drink (admittedly almost out of date) and a water bottle from Express & Star. This year ? One banana and one pen plus countless useless leaflets from waitrose ! £7 for that - you gotta be kidding !

In short: Excellent race but real error with race mementoes.
In full: This was a superb race - well organised with an interesting lap course taking in quiet roads, a bit of woodland path and a run around the lakes of Holme Pierrepont. Great weather and a super flat course. But who made the ridiculous decision to give EVERYONE a medium tee shirt ? Certainly one third of the field won't be able to wear theirs with pride, if they can get into them at all.

In short: Brilliant race on a perfect day
In full: I had waited 21 years to run Windermere again. I even retired from marathon running after London 2000, but this one brought me back. The organisation was brilliant, the weather was brilliant, my time of 4:13 was only 11 minutes slower than in 1986 and I feel great afterwards. We stayed at Brathay Hall for the weekend, and I had race number ONE (entered in April 2006 !) - this is the BEST event on the calendar !

In short: Glorious race with fabulous scenery and a great atmosphere
In full: Really enjoyed this - despite the nerves at the start wondering if I should have lied about my times as so many others obviously did !! The organisation was superb, atmosphere terrific, and the 9 mile route was excellent with enough tarmac to keep me happy, but plenty of woodland paths as well. Views off the top were stupendous, and the sun even came out at one stage. Strange with the handicap system to be running almost alone for the first part of the race, before catching up with both slower and faster runners towards the end. Well done Shropshire Shufflers, will be back next year.

In short: Great mid-week 10km through rural lanes
In full: A great mid-week 10km which passes through rural lanes and scenic countryside. The hills don't seem half as bad when you have a really good run as I did this year. Probably already passed it's comfortable race limit, but when did organisers ever impose their own limits to ensure runners' comfort ? Well organised and well supported as always.

In short: Scenic, well organised tough half marathon
In full: Thoroughly enjoyable course with lots of hills but these were downhills as well as uphills of course. Shame I had bad stomach cramps from mile 3 which spoiled my race. have to come back again next year.
