In short: Really good challenging run in the hills In full: I thoroughly enjoyed this evenings race. I was expecting a challenging course and it didn't disappoint. The hill at the start and the other one at around 7miles which didn't seem to end did mean that there was no chance of a PB but to be honest it didn't matter.
Good t shirt at the finish too and for 9quid it was pretty good value. Date of review: June 18, 2011
In short: Fantastic way to spend a sunday morning In full: I had an absolute blast, the first time i'd done this race and i must admit to being a bit disappointed that it looks like it will clash with the nottm marathon next year. At least if i don't quite manage to make it to the start of that race I know theres a lovely little race a similar distance away Date of review: September 12, 2010
In short: My very first marathon and a bit disappointed In full: While I can't fault the atmosphere and the support during the race I think the organisation was a real let down. I could cope without chip timing but to have 20ps ready in my pocket.. I asked one marshall at the 16mileish mark where the loos were and i go blanked. Thankfully one pointed me to a solarium where i relieved myself.
The fact the race number didnt come till late either wouldnt have been a problem if everything that was advertised on the site was actually going to be part of the race.
Like I said though i cant fault the support or the atmosphere. The route was no where near as boring and flat as i thought a 2 lap jolly round the prom would be either especially along the lower part of the prom past the lucozade station. Date of review: April 8, 2009
In short: Excellent race!!! In full: Having done the belper rugby rover a few weeks previous i was expecting a fairly gentle 10miler though in the end it was a baby belper only on the road. Some very playful inclines and descents and the marshalls were very good, looking forward to seeing the time that i got :) Date of review: September 9, 2008
In short: Hehe what a race In full: My first non road race and i can honestly say that it was and is one of my favourites, plenty of stop starts for steeper climbs and the styles made it as hard on my head to concerntrate on not trippin up as it was on me legs. Well worth doing again if only to actually run as opposed to hobble the last couple of miles. Date of review: August 19, 2008
In short: a year after my first ever half marathon and still very enjoyable In full: Having done more races in the past twelve months i expected that this race would not have the special feeling i got from last years. But with an okay course good t shirt at the end and a very supportive field and marshalls i can see me trying to make it three in a row next year.
The one critism is the start which as i was further back this year than 07 i really had to tread carefully for the first half mile as the field spread out from the very narrow beggining. Date of review: August 15, 2008
In short: Great race with picture perfect route and scenery if stupidly hot In full: Really good fun route with a good turn out, quality marshalls. To be honest its fairly hard to fault unless you are a beginner or not good at running in what must have been high teens to low twenties.
In short: A unique race taking in some beautifal scenery around the lune valleyy In full: My first 20mile race and it was a real strugle especially with a fairly strong wind blowing into the field for the return leg. The support from passers by and the marshalls (the best ive experienced) really gave me the extra bit of energy needed to finish.
As for the scenery, picture perfect!!! Date of review: March 3, 2008
In short: Great race with picture postcard scenery In full: A really good all round course and i was surpised by the low turnout compared to the half i did in newark in august. This made for a more personal race for me with the field bein as strung out as it was.
The scenery really was awesome, gentle rolling hills and the stretches along the cycle path were very pleasant with the autumn weaather complementing. making for near-perfect conditions for running. Date of review: October 21, 2007
