In short: 'not bad' sums up the race. Only Jan road marathon so would be back In full: Race was basic but had what it needed. Unsure on the previous reviews talking about t-shirts as I certainly didn't see or get one! Race does have pb potential if you've done your hill work before hand. If your running around the 3hr to 3:20 mark so race can get a little lonely on the 2nd lap but by the 3rd you are starting to lap people which gives some conversation. Personally I didn't like the no iPod rule. Marshall were where they neede to be. Due to the lack of comminication before hand (I wouldn't have found the info sheet if not pointed out by a forum member) and the organisers unwillingness to engage in communication it does give the impression they don't really want to organise it but do it for the money. Bottom line is it's a basic race which is over priced but is I think the only January road marathon so I'll be back of another one doesn't start up Date of review: January 25, 2010
In short: Organised like clockwork, well worth the trip In full: Very enjoyable, had an awful run but still had a smile on my face. The course is definately PB able, although the wind into your face up hills makes it tough. So it's not the course it's the wind that can runin the pb chance. Great value race, with a hall to wait in, good medal, snack in goody bag, hot showers and changing rooms. Sure I'll be back next year Date of review: December 6, 2009
In short: Great race, cheap as chips and well worth it! In full: Friendly marshalls and good fun race. Course description describes the last few miles as undulating but I would call them hilly! Be warned to save them for the end. Roads are not closed but are plenty quite enough to not course any concerns. Date of review: November 22, 2009
In short: Definate average race In full: Not a bad race and not a great race. Just ok throughout. For £20 it's good value. Although there is some running along main roads you are into countryside quite soon. Could do we some port a loos along the course!! Running through the town at the end is quite cool and hopefully the town folk will get behind the race in the years to come. Date of review: October 12, 2009
In short: Great day and will be back next year without a doubt! In full: Just the odd gripe about a good day. Could have done with a 2 minute warning to the start, I had previsouly been told the start would be delayed by 15 minutes by a marshall at the start. So standing in my tracksuit bottoms and jumper I was a bit shocked to hear a 5 second countdown! Only other gripe was the shingle at the end.
This could not detract from a great race with great organisation. I can sum it up with this, it took me 13hrs 15mins, I was hurting from 13 miles out,I had to take Monday and Tuesday off work as I couldn't climb stairs and I get the train. On Sunday night and Monday my wife had to lift my legs for me to get into bed. But I will be back next year without a doubt and am looking forward to it already!!!! Date of review: September 22, 2009
In short: Do it again like a shot!! Great race! In full: Tough tough tough but well worth it! The marshalls are fantastic and pretty much the whole entry list supports each other. Altough there were a few times that I could only manage a thumbs up. Photographers were also great. If you do maathons then you must try the toughest in the country, it's just a must! Really good fun and a race to make you smile with happiness for the whole summer- or at least until you try to walk!
In short: Tough Tough Tough but Fun Fun Fun In full: The point to point is a bit of a pain as getting a bus at the start means you need to get up extra early. However the organisation was really good, course was well marked, runners were friendly as were the walkers out on the tracks. I added about an hour to a normal road marathon and would be a nice touch to add something like this to the entry process like some runs, i.e. you should expect this race to add 35% to a road marathon time. Medal is the smallest medal I have ever had. On the whole this was a good race and I think I will be back Date of review: June 14, 2009
In short: Great low key race In full: My first non-big city marathon and I really enjoyed it. Don't race for a time, run to enjoy it and stop and talk to the marshalls who are really friendly and helpful. I thought stopping for red lights would be a pain but actually it wasn't so bad and most of the time the marshalls saw you coming and pressed the button so it was normally clear to go by the time you got there. Overall a really good race with some tough ish hills, agree golf course could be changed but just adds to the challenge, signage in there could be improved though. Date of review: May 10, 2009
In short: Very enjoyable 20 miler, good up hills but you were rewarded with the down hills. In full: Great race and definately in my diary for next year. If I was pushed to find a negative it would be the amount of time it took to get out of the cap park, however I still had a smile even after that! Nothing not to like and good course for anyone marathoning as the hills are up and down and nothing too severe. Organsiation was spot on and couldn't have asked for more, goody bag was good to. In short: big hill but pb potential In full: Good race only change to make is the last drinks station. It was just before a short but steep slope which I didn't want to run up with a cup so went without. Water hand outs at second to last drinks station as marshalls were just standing behind the table not doing anything. Would do again Date of review: March 1, 2009
