In full: My third time doing this lovely marathon and it certainly is a special one. I needed to change my number at the beginning in order to change my 'wave' and am happy to report that was quick and easy to do. It was my 30th marathon to date and I couldn't have chosen a better one. Fastest time as well which was a big surprise to me especially as I'd just done one on the Monday prior. I put it down to the fantastic atmosphere, the gorgeous views and the support you get from the other runners and also the brilliant relay changeover points where there are fresh, eager, sweet smelling others ready to cheer you on. This run was a shocker first time I did it in 2009, but I now know what to expect and those last 6 miles are pretty tough and leg burningly hard. Fabulous run and at last, the Weather Gods shone on us that day. Oh, one gripe.....running is not very sexy but please, the T Short at the end was just pretty grim, shapeless and not suffient small sizes....other than that, brilliant. Date of review: June 14, 2012

In full: This was a brilliant event. Was dubious about doing so many laps but had always been intrigued by multi lap marathons. This one delivered and much more. A couple of 'inclines' which got steadily worse as the laps mounted up but to make up for them were some lovely downhills at which I just flew. Great to be able to look over to see running buddies and have an encouraging wave. The bands on wrist thing was great but I almost did another lap...not difficult to count to 17 but I managed it !! Luckily the team were switched on and could tell me immediately I'd finished ! I loved it so much am now looking for more multi laps and have already entered for next year. Fantastic event and the venue delivers what it said. Date of review: June 5, 2012

In full: Third time for me doing this lovely low key, friendly marathon. The weather was pretty hot but excellent water stops and very frequent. Well attended by friendly marshals who were full of encouragement. Struggled a bit this year on those hills which get bigger second time around and under a week since I climbed around 3 Forts marathon, it was always going to be tough. Great encouragement from the half maras as they sped past us at about mile 20....thanks to them. Well organised and great to know your entry fee is going to a worthwhile cause. I just know this will be a yearly event for me. Date of review: May 14, 2012

In full: I am going to repeat most of which has gone before but so what. I just LOVE this event !! It was like Steyning Stinger Revisited !! Just brilliant fun if quad crunchingly knackering. I only entered a few weeks ago having ran hard and fast at Brighton and was due to run Shakespeare last Sunday which was annoyingly cancelled very last minute. This run more than made up for last weekends disappointment, and boy,I'm glad I did enter and never again will I dither. I love the South Downs even if the weather is trying to blow us over to France. I did it in 2010 and it was very similar but this time, I dressed more appropriately and glad I did. Never mind that it is May, get those gloves, hats, Buffs on ! Fantastic marshaling with lots of smiles to go along with the cakes and wet jelly babies. Lots of chatty runners out there as well and most happy to smile and grunt at you. Bit of a mass bundle at the start but I know the route so was quite happy to walk up that first hill and natter. Thanks again for a brilliant event and it will be a yearly one for me now, never mind the weather. Date of review: May 8, 2012

In full: After yesterday I have decided thatI just love this run ! Did it in 2010 and it was very tough. Revisited it yesterday in what was really quite appalling weather. I had an absolutely fantastic time due mainly to the "all in in togetherness" I felt from other runners and also because of the amazing, brilliant, friendly marshalls who stayed out there in pretty vile conditions. It was my 25th marathon and it has now moved to be in my top 3. I love the staggered start, I love how there are half marathoners out there and also walkers. Well run HQ with a free fried breakfast at the end.....awesome. I am abit of a medal-holic and would just love to have been given a medal but am happy to settle with a mug plus a certificate that can be sent out to you if you so wish. Very challenging route with 4 'stings' or bloody big hills..lots of 'smaller' hills as well. Mars bars at well placed water stations with choccie bics. Not a big fan of eating whilst running but yesterday I think I managed to scoff a few Mars Bars !! So, many thanks to Steyning AC and helpers (including children handing out brekkie at the HQ) for a fantastic event. It will be on my yearly marathon calender now for sure. In full: Second time doing this for me. Last time in 2010. I thoroughly enjoyed it mostly due to knowing what to expect out on those 3 laps ! Friendly race and pockets of decent support which was great. New finish also a big improvement so thanks for that and also a lovely bit of bling. Would recommend this as a great start to the year. In short: Second year doing this and will come back ! In full: I am local and it made sense for me to go do this run. I enjoyed it more than last year but mostly due to my training. However there were a few changes made since last year which I could see would be a problem for those who didn't know the route. The slippy hill down through tree onto tarmac path was weird...no marshall and definately potential to overshoot and fall over the edge ! Last year we went around that headland and on the return route I saw a few do that as no marshall and that slippy hill was easy to not see on return. Bit daft really to not have a marshall at a crucial point for obvious reasons but mainly as it could have been nasty if someone overshot downhill. The bit on the road and having to climb over the fence - again not a problem for me as have done it before, but I had to call out to others to direct them. Easy stuff to sort out with better marshalling and there was a marshall there last year. Not sure wwhy there was not checking of numbers at 13 miles....am not suggesting that anyone would 'cheat' but it has been known at other bigger runs. More runners this year which caused bottlenecks which I actually don't have a problem with as we're all in it together and I was out for enjoyment. Beat my time for last year so happy enough. Better finish than last year as it just kind of fizzled out in 2010. The water stations were great and lovely to have such a good supply of jelly beans. Very friendly manning of those stations and some very enthusiastic children which is always great to see. I do kind of now love this run. Very friendly, great atmosphere, good stuff and bling at the finish, free soup, roll etc. Please just tweak the couple of areas that were of a concern. Weather was just perfect as having run along Portsmouth prom on a number of occasions, it is a mare if blowing a hoolie ! I will be back as yes, now one of my favs. Date of review: December 21, 2011
