In short: I liked it so much I'll do the series ! In full: This was my first off-road race and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I underestimated how much more effort was required for running at speed on this sort of terrain, but it hasnt put me off. Next year I'd like to complete all four. In short: Great PB race In full: I like this 10k for it's promise of speed, but it's a good job you are running fast as there isnt much to look at. I was a little disappointed this year that the t-shirts were posted out before the race. One of the things I really enjoy about finishing a race is getting the t-shirt to say 'I've done it' and then changing into it (because it's dry and it's a good way to get warm again) and you can see all the others proudly wearing their t-shirts at the finish. I know the organisers probably hoped that by posting them everyone would turn up in them on the day and it would make for good photos, but that doesnt really happen, most people want to wear their club colours or charity tops, or even just their 'lucky' shirt... Let's have the t-shirt at the end next year, after I've finished and 'earned' it :o) Date of review: November 30, 2008

In short: Lovely hills + scenery In full: I really enjoyed this race, it was everything I hoped it would be, scenic, a little hilly and memorable. The downsides were few, but among them was the last couple of miles to the finish. Once you crossed the river and could see the stadium psychologically you were ready to finish, so it was quite a kick when you realised that you had to run past the stadium, out onto a road, round the other side and then into the stadium from the opposite side.... my running partner was nearly in tears at this point... I'm sure there must a better way of managing the last couple of miles from the bridge.... The food at the end was very welcome and it certainly hit the spot. The Baxters goody bag was excellent, however I was shocked to see that some people had just 'dumped' theirs at the side of the road! I'm sure they could have politely said 'no thank you' when they were handed one, rather than it go to waste... shame on them ! Date of review: November 30, 2008

In short: Good race, but had trouble with the traffic In full: I really enjoyed the change to the route, the addition of a few inclines really added some variety and kept my legs happy. Support from spectators and marshalls was good. There are 2 main things that spoiled this race for me. The first was the traffic on the route. At one point on a street that had 2 way traffic open on it a car decided to swerve into the kerb to let an oncoming car past and nearly knocked me over. Then when the cars were getting gridlocked we couldnt get past them and were having to weave in and out of traffic which was dangerous as it was stopping and starting and so close to the edge of the road (there was no footpath) that there was nowhere for the runners to go. The second point is that the fun run started at the same time at a different place so they couldnt see me off, then go to their race as they normally would at such an event. This upset my family as the reason they come along is to support me, but also want to support the race by joining in.... Date of review: October 19, 2008

In short: A great race - shame about the buses In full: I really enjoyed this race, and I really enjoyed the gravel section. It woke my legs up and got them interested again. Just what I needed as the monotony had set in. The start wasn't good. As ever, there were huge queues for toilets, you couldnt get to the pens for them. That street is just too narrow to accommodate such a large number of people successfully. The route itself was good, although we got quite a battering from the wind for a good fews miles on the way out. It was a relief to turn around. The racecourse finish was great. It really make you feel good. The biggeset problem with this race was the transport home. All of my group had paid for the bus (10 of us) but we all had to make our own way back as the queue was huge and wasnt moving. Who wants to stand in a bus queue (in the shade where it was cold) when you are tired, in damp clothing and getting chilly. Not me! They knew how many tickets they had sold for transport back so why couldnt they accommodate us?? I wont use this service again. What a waste of money. But I may be back for the race next year :o) Date of review: June 29, 2008

In short: Great fun - and lots of pants to keep you amused In full: This was a fun race in Roundhay. I ran with my son and we really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was great and everyone had spent a lot of time and trouble decorating their pants. The course was hilly in places, and to be fair would probably be better run in the opposite direction so that the finish was downhill (instead of uphill). I hope this comes back to Leeds next year. In short: A pleasant Sunday run. In full: Well organised for a new race. The route was nice, enough slopes to keep it interesting but not enough to take the wind out of your sails. I liked the glass momento, but the promised goody bag never appeared, just a cup of orange squash. This event was mostly club runners. I was one of the few independents. But if you're a new runner dont let it put you off, it was still friendly and small enough to be charming. Good for spectators, so you could bring the family along quite happily (I did). If I'm in Norfolk this time next year I would do this race again. Date of review: June 29, 2008
