In short: Up, and up, and up, and finally down! In full: First 6 km mainly uphill, so train for those, then a relaxing way back home, but whoever designed the FINISH line uphill is a monster! Definitely no personal best for me on this one, but excellent race and might do it again if I feel well enough next year, hopefully with a better time. Date of review: March 22, 2009

In short: The goal of this race is the charity, not the run per-se In full: The run itself is flat, very flat, you could definitely define it boring as it is just up and down the coastal road along the ocean, but the view of the ocean is beautiful. Definitely suitable for beginners and candidate for personal best. Didn't manage to do mine just because I didn't train enough, but many of my colleagues were zooming down like thunder. I would do it again because of the charity and the atmosphere at least. The substained wind didn't help, hard against us coming back. Overall a good day out. Date of review: October 20, 2008

In short: The biggest triathlon in the world and worthwhile being there! In full: They have races from super-sprint to Olympic distance. Great first event for anybody, could convert a runner in a triathlete! Easy cycling circuit and flat running course so a definite PB in good weather, although Saturday this year the weather was wet and windy so only the first few races were lucky enough to get the best of the day. In short: Hot race but well worthwhile In full: It is the second year I have done it and the second year in quite hot temperature. I agree that more water was probably needed before the 5km, specially with so many novices. Just did 1 min and a half less compared to last year, but this flat race is a definite PB potential in the right weather. Excellent atmosphere and the cause is really worthwhile anyway. Worth the trip up to London. Will do it again next year for sure. Date of review: July 26, 2008

2008 Southampton Race for Life 5K

In short: A touching experience as usual! In full: Southampton Race for Life 5k for women is not too much about running but about the fundraising that brings us together in the Southampton common every year and the stories we write on our shoulders. Additionally it converts many non-runners into get-fit people. The only criticism is the fact that some walkers still keep on starting with the runners and don't respect that some people might have raised money on the assumption they make a reasonable time. It would be good if the organization could separate the runners from the walkers to start, maybe assigning different color of numbers white, blue, pink etc. like they do in other races, based on expected time. Other than that it is a brilliant experience and running with 10,000 other women is uplifting no matter how fast you can run or walk! So I am ready already for next year! :-) Date of review: July 13, 2008

In short: Who said it was only one big hill on the 8 km?? In full: Undulating quite a bit actually, but indeed the most challenging hill was at the 8km. Did my personal best (yes, under the hour!!) so this is a special race for me and hopefully the first of many under the hour. Very friendly feeling, not too clubby at all and well worth running it even after a soaking rain that was with us for the whole race. Will be probably back next year as schedule allows, got to improve that hill at the 8th kilometre! Date of review: July 6, 2008

In short: Fast race, not many above the hour, extremely well marshalled In full: This is a race that takes place in the area I live. I had seen it several times in the past years and never participated in it. This year I thought I was fit enough for this 10k so I dared to try. The race was mostly on my running grounds around my house so it felt familiar, still have learnt some new spots and the bridleway bit was a total discovery for me. Weather wise we were blessed by no rain, not too hot degree-wise, but the humidity made it 10,000 times more difficult, very sticky! Hilly in a couple of places, but nothing unbareable. Not many beginners, mainly a race for the more serious runners. What impressed me the most was the marshalling, extremely well done, I was impressed. I think it was the best marshalling I found in a relatively small local race, comparable to much bigger races at national level. Well done guys! Will be back next year! Date of review: June 29, 2008

In short: Nice run in the park In full: Race course is good for personal best, very flat, but marshalling could definitely be improved as well as signage to the race car park. The START line was almost invisible. In general I would do it again just for the heck of beating my own time. No real post race ambience. In summary: the course is nice, I would just like to see a better organization around it. Date of review: May 18, 2008

In short: A good day out for the whole family and friend circle, before, during and after the race. In full: It made my day. Although the weather did not help to start, when the race actually started we were off without rain and it was really great to run through those hills. The funniest thing was to see ostriches running after us on the other side of one of the enclosures! Other then that the marshalls were fantastic and it was great to feel that downhill after the first half of the race. The rain has completely stopped by the end of the race, nice jacked potato at one of the zoo restaurants and sun was out in the afternoon for a great visit to the zoo. We loved the giraffes!!! To do again, this time with knowledge of the course! Date of review: April 27, 2008
