In short: A lovely local race on a challenging course In full: These grass-roots events with 150-200 runners are just so pleasant. Plenty of rolling hills to give you a challenge, and well-supported by local clubs despite yesterday being XC league day for some. Date of review: October 31, 2010

In short: A beautiful course even on a foul-weather day. In full: Well done to all the organisers and marshalls. All we had to do on this foul day was turn up and enjoy the run. So many arrows it was hard to get lost. How the marshalls remained so cheerful and supportive, when they must have been freezing and wet says a lot for the suffolk character. At the end hot shower, hot drink, hot food. A pity there aren't a lot more giving this one a try.... it really is worth the trip. Date of review: May 5, 2010

In short: What a gem of a race! In full: Fantastic scenery, a good challenging route, well-organised, friendly marshalls, and there can't be many events that provide you with snacky bits at the check-points and a meal at the finish and a quality t-shirt, all for £15. Well done Compton - I have never run in this area before, but I will be back. Date of review: April 3, 2010

In short: The organisers can even control the weather! In full: It has nearly all been said. Next year can you stick up a massive poster at the field exit to say 'Don't forget your chip', so one old fart, who should know better, won't be reminded until he steps on the first mat? I've not done that before, & won't do it again I hope. Date of review: March 29, 2010

In short: To hell and back, to heaven and back! In full: Others have said it all, so I won't repeat. Would I do it again? I have put 'No', because I found it so very tough, but I would reccommend anyone else to give it a go .... just for the superb scenery. I do lots of marathons once, love them, but would not repeat them. I managed to go off course just past the Chanctonbury Ring, coming to a T junction with no markers. I eventually rejoined the course by the 14 mile marker after 3/4 mile of exploration. Probably my fault! Date of review: March 8, 2010

In short: Well organised race, but a lot of long straight roads In full: Well done Sleaford for putting so much into the run, cheerful marshalls, excellent goody bag, hot showers even when I got in. It could be a PB course apart from the muddy rutted Viking Way where even a 4x4 was stuck. The long straight roads I found a bit tiresome, and no village nor hardly a house to provide some interest. It was a very cold damp dull day; perhaps a ray of sunshine would have brought some cheer. Date of review: February 28, 2010

In short: A heartwarmer to replace the heartbreaker In full: A great run in woodland & on grass. I'd expected knee-deep bog after the recent rain, but conditions underfoot were nigh on perfect. You can trust Sphinx to put on a decent event. Date of review: November 23, 2009

In short: Shame about the weather In full: Just back from Cornwall after a week of fine weather - apart from Sunday - such a shame. It even stopped raining 15 mins before the start, conning me into leaving off my baseball cap and exposing my glasses to the elements...I ended up removing them, a bit precarious on the stoney bits around 7 miles. A very tough course, I reckon added 30 mins to my time, but what views there would have been. I came with 3 non-running relatives to the Eden Project on sunny Saturday so I know. (Organisers please note: the marathon brought 4 of us to the county for a week earning Cornwall some revenue). Other folk have said it all.... but a finish area easily accessible to all would be the main improvement. Date of review: October 17, 2009

In short: A lovely way to train for an autumn marathon In full: A great run, the worst part for me was the conentration on not falling over (tree roots, ploughed fields). Perhaps a yellow sign at the final turn into the sports field. You can't see the finish and we hovered some time before someone waved us in. The only other thing you could organise is a little ray of sunshine to highlight the wonderful scenary. Date of review: September 13, 2009

In short: What am I doing here? In full: Waiting in the baggage tent as the rain fell at the start, with about 20 others, I wondered 'What am I doing here?' I was on holiday and spotted this race was on nearby, so thought it would be rude to ignore it. But, I don't do much of this sort of stuff, perhaps my E.Anglian upbringing. Anyway, the organiser was encouraging, all sorts of abilities taking part etc. The arrival of another 40 or so on the next buses was comforting. I am so glad I entered. Despite the boggy bits where you weren't sure if you'd lost your foot let alone your shoe, and the hills, the whole thing was a wonderful experience. Well organised. Only doubt was not sure if low cloud had come down, whether the markers would have been close enough on the return over the extra ups. But well done the organisers. Date of review: July 28, 2009
