In short: Poor In full: This being their first attempt at this I can forgive the odd hiccup, i.e. The farce that was was the baggage drop (come on Oxford surely you have been to other races and have seen how it is done!!). Delayed start. No atmosphere at the start (once you found where it was!)Poor non supportive, disinterested marshalls, actually no I cant forgive this, the marshalling was crap! But the one thing, that above all else will stop me running this again was the appalling route. I felt I was either running along busy dual carriageways or forced to run in the gutter along dismal residential streets, when we did get into the "city" we ran past a couple of mildly interesting buildings dodging tourists before being directed down another side street to find ourselves running in another gutter in search of another dual carriageway to run along. If that is your idea of scenic running you can keep it, I wouldnt run that as a training run - crap! Date of review: September 25, 2011
In short: It was ok In full: The start was non event - everybody was lined up in their timed start pens waiting to hear the starter tell them to move forward closer to the start line - but nothing, no announcement, no count down just a hooter sounding in the distance and that was the start, crap really! Quite marshals and over stretched water stations. A fairly flat route with some nice support, I would do it again but only because it is relatively local to me. Date of review: May 22, 2011
In short: Brilliant In full: This is without doubt my favourite race. Great location, great organisation, great marshalling and best of all the great support en-route. The Brighton marathon makes for the perfect race weekend - easy to get to, plenty of accommodation, plenty of restaurants/pubs (for carb loading of course!) and of course theres the beach to keep the kids occupied.
Yes the route has a few lumps in the first 10 miles and yes some parts of it are a bit bland but that does not matter when you take into account the fantastic sea views and immense support along the prom.
I've done it twice now and I will be back next year. Date of review: April 11, 2011
In short: Good event In full: Overall a good event, well marshalled and organised with some terrific support enroute - live bands, blarring stereos and great cheering. For me the only thing that let this event down was the route, it was dull - it was more of a case of running along boring roads than through the beautiful city of bath!! Date of review: March 6, 2011
In short: First class event In full: The 20 miler is perfect for all those running a spring marathon. It provides a great opportunity test your marathon race pace in race conditions. Date of review: February 21, 2011
In short: A very well organised race and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. In full: A quick downhill start but between 6 and 9 miles a series of hills took there toll on my legs which began to cramp and so the remaining 16 miles were run/walked in some discomfort but I still finished well inside the 4 hours. Fantastic scenery and well worth the trip for what is a tough but great marathon. I'll give this one another go when I have forgotten how hard the hills are. Date of review: October 5, 2010
In short: A race that trully deserves its top 5 status. In full: Well done Chippenham Harriers youve done it again - fantastic race, excellent supportive marshalling, great tech tee and medal. My 3rd time running this and it just keeps getting better, I will be back in 2011. Date of review: September 12, 2010
In short: One of the best 10k's in the south west In full: This race has a great atmosphere, the marshalling again was faultless as was all aspects of organisation including the parking. The course is quick even though the first mile is uphill - my wife and I both got PB's today, our 3rd time running this and we will be back again next year. Date of review: August 29, 2010
