In short: first time at paddock wood wont be the last In full: great race, superb scenery and well organised.. HQ like clockwork, race off on time, marshalls spot on and great suupport in paddock wood and as we passed through the various villages.. flat but by no means boring, beautiful scenery too... highly recommended Date of review: April 1, 2012
In short: Nice low key fast friendly race In full: No complaints at all, entered on the day, quick and easy to do. Race quick... Perhaps caught a few of us out asim not the only one who died over the last two miles. Countryside rather uninspiring and little support on the course. Marshals generally very supportive and helpful, although one or two on the last bit seemed rather more interested to talk to others rather than shouting encouragement. Great tech t shirt and nice medal. Jaffa cakes a nice touch too, although the 1/3 banana was slightly pointless unless you got three of them.... All in all however a very pleasant mornings work and a pb to boot Date of review: March 11, 2012
In short: superbly organised, friendly and great value for money In full: My first attempt at this race and wasnt disappointed at all.. The organisation was smooth, hq was more than adequate bar the usual backlog for the loos... perhaps the organisers could also advertise the other toilets near the start? The race itself was very well organised, plenty of good enthusiastic marshalls, well operated drinks stations and a fair smattering of spectators.. The course was fairly tame in the first half but the drag up the ramp at the cliff was a killer for me, still i cracked on and finished sub 2.30 so really happy with that - will be back if i am barmy enough to do another marathon next year!
In short: Start to finish fine, the rest......? In full: Enjoyed the day and found the course very fair, what goes up, comes back down again... Conditions also good, no doubt helping the number of pb's. I have to say though that the rest of the event was distinctly average, the usual log jam collecting chIps and numbers, too many runners for the venue, overflowing changing rooms with water... A pretty average medal too so not great value for money, from gun to funnel it ticked the boxes however and will do it again just for the course, with no expectations of anything else.
In short: Well done again B&D, This is a must do race in North Lincs and E.Yorks In full: I cant heap enough praise on the organisers, the race went like clockwork and they booked the weather too. Yes the course in undulating but its fair and what goes up does come back down again. Seen lots of PB's on run britain and i was no exception taking 50 secs off and going under 45 mins for the first time, so this is NOT a slow course...
the previous review mentioned toilets, agree more needed for next year.. apart from that faultless, cracking Technical T shirt, cakes and sports massage at the end... WELL DONE ALL & See you next year :) Date of review: November 6, 2011
In short: hot and tough with some little niggles In full: when a race is advertised as chip timed it suprised me when once id run through the start i hadnt run over any mats, then hey presto i realised there werent any... so my plan of starting further back and working my way through was blown to pieces before i start... this combined with my pet hate of collecting numbers on the day was not a good start. on the positives though after a rather dreary run down a never ending main road the scenery was very nice on the way back down the tow path, but caution, despite it being advertised as flat (yes ) but fax?? on that gravel tow path, im not so sure...Also as ever another hot one, not the organisers fault of course and the race did start at 9am so at least this was considered...
hung around for the presentations and was impressed to see a 1500 quid cheque handed over to local charities and then hung around by the river for a few hours for the pub to open and scoffed a sunday lunch to get rid of the frustrations of earlier... Date of review: July 26, 2011
In short: incredible awe inspiring support, a must do race in the calendar In full: my first marathon and the support absolutely blew me away to be honest. Only one or two quiet spots on the entire course, Shoreham was hard but once you got back on the neverending run back down the prom the support was nothing short of incredible.. if i was cheered on over a thousand times i wouldnt be suprised. Got cramp at 25 miles and had to stop and stretch and when i set off again there was a huge cheer!! great race, will be back (maybe not next year as doing paris but defo 2013!)
