In short: Perfect weather, nicely challenging course, vocal marshalls. In full: Second year running the new course and still really like it. Weather was perfect this year (unlike the 2011 heat wave), cold with clear blue cloudless skies.
Very easy getting to the start, small toilet queues, runners standing in the right 'pens' before the start. Almost perfect!
Marshalls were a lot more vocal this year, encouraging all the runners and lots of small groups of locals out cheering.
Improved my time by two minutes on last year and ran a negative split – helped by the fact the first half is uphill, the second down!
Still a few minor niggles: collecting race numbers from Decathlon on Saturday was a pain, and a bit disorganised. No marshal or arrow (that I could see) at Allesley Village so I nearly went the wrong way. The route through Broadgate was far too tight, those corners really difficult to take at speed and the finish is a bit devoid of people who can’t see you until you are almost over the line.
Apart from that a great race and will probably run it again!!
In short: Awesome! Some of the most enjoyable running I've ever done. In full: Loved running passed so many iconic London landmarks and, at the start, running on traffic free, almost deserted roads. Well organised, well signed, flat, perfect weather. What more could you want? And, all in support of the fantastic work Scope does working to make a very real difference to the lives of people with disabilities. Date of review: October 10, 2012
In short: Excellant race, very good organisation, just a bit windy! In full: Ditto all the good things that have been said below. Despite the wind ran 3 minutes faster than last time I did this race, and it was bright and sunny! Date of review: November 27, 2011
In short: Its my home town, so of course I'll do it again! In full: 3rd Coventry Half and, if it wasn't for the heat, I think this is a better course. Actually, quite a rural half marathon, less a city one, with some classic Warwickshire countryside which is joy to run in.
Support from the crowds was also excellent.
Organisation could improve though - delayed start was annoying, but stuff happens. Too few toilets, finish area seemed 'unplanned', 3 water stations OK in most years, but surely someone should have added in one or two more and not relied on the excellent local support. T-shirt seems a size too small (shame) and mile 12 marker, it was there, but pointing the wrong way...........oh, and given that you couldn’t see the finish line until you rounded the last corner, yes, count down marker should have been good.
In short: Fifth time at Nottingham and yet again an excellant day out! In full: Very windy in the second half of the marathon (but it always is isn't it?!), but glad there was less running up and down the rowing lake this year, a welcome change. Date of review: September 14, 2011
In short: Good, flat, fast course - terrible organisation In full: Second Edinburgh Marathon, enjoyed this year more than last. I like the course, scenery etc, but minus points:
Mile markers too small / missing? Same as last year. Finish area v. disorganised, long way to get water. Handed 'Festival' T-shirt not marathon one Rubbish medal compared to last year Ridiculous ‘pinch point’ to exit baggage area V. expensive given facilities provided
Plus points? Preferred finish on tarmac rather than bouncy mat in race course Plenty of toilets at London Road start – if you looked... More water stations than last year, or was it just less hot?
In short: Very enjoyable day out! In full: Despite lack of pre race communication everything went very well on the day. Enjoyed the course, scenery was good, marshalls were excellant, local drivers were nuts, but apart from that overall I enjoyed it! Date of review: January 24, 2011
In short: Great fun, great location, superb organisation! Rudolph will be back. In full: Well done to the organisers for making this race happen today. Having had to cancel in December because of ice (which was the right decision), they could easily have cancelled again today. BUT, they somehow came up with a revised route at the last minute, the sun came out, loads of runners in antlers turned up and Rudolph stampeded to victory (thanks to a very generous fellow runner....).
The marshals were spot on, there were festive tunes on the tannoy and plates loaded up with mince pies.
I’m looking forward to 11 December 2011 for the next run already!
In short: Definitely has PB potential and very friendly marshalls and supporters In full: Wet and windy today, otherwise PB must be on the cards. Nice easy route, lovley village for start/finish. Car parking distance from start was off-putting, but apart from that a very good first race. Date of review: October 3, 2010
