In short: Monumental screw up in 10k race spoilt day! In full: I second what Ed Furness says but slightly different experience. was at worst 6th coming into the 7.5k part, only to see there was no marshall for the left hand turn up Keep Hill! Was racing two fellas at the time who were a couple of seconds ahead, so it could have gone either way. Proceeded with the correct route as I'd done it last year as they went the wrong way, presuming I'd gain from their misfortune. I passed through 8 and 9k apparently as only the second to actually go the right route (!), only to come out at the other end of the field and find a flood of 4 people I hadn't seen all race ahead of me having done what must have been 400-500metres less! VERY annoying, as I couldn't reign 2 of them in, let alone have the big finish against the 4th and 5th placed at the time. Therefore came 8th which was disappointing as the true story will be forgotten. However, must be even worse for those who'd done the wrong route and therefore their times are completely worthless!
Handy Cross, bad error, missing off 2 absolutely key stewards, terrible work. But fair play resolved quite quickly, so if you weren't in the front 30 in the 10k you'd have been none the wise. Date of review: July 19, 2009
In short: Technically a fell race. something the organisers forgot to point out! In full: Much tougher race than anticipated, and I'm not one of these beginner types who thinks anything more than a 10cm climb is a hill.
This apparently had 700 feet of climbs in the 2 lap course, yet the organisers hilariously described it as flat/undulating!
For me it is "very hilly" lol.
Did some tough courses last year and still broke 40mins. Am currently mid 37s which should be sub 37 ona flat course, but today was 40:53!
a tough tough course! Date of review: June 21, 2009
In short: Low key Bank Holiday event In full: A nice little low key event, perfect bank holiday fare. Reasonably big field of 300, involving loads of kids, but some decent runnes at the front...I like to think finishing 2nd!
Delighted with the medal. Date of review: May 5, 2009
In short: Nice Little Boxing day burn to re awaken the legs after Christmas In full: Good little race that is both low key and a good standard at the front! My sub 18mins pace probably didn't even get me into the top 20! A little 100metre or so climb on each of 3 laps meant that a bit of time is no doubt added to your time from a flat 5k...but all in all a nice little race.
Only problem with a 5k is 30mins later you are feeling so fine it's as if you've not run!! Worked well with the Bell pub providing head quarters and a safe place to leave bags. Date of review: December 26, 2008
In short: Tough and multi terrain but well organised and some nice touches In full: Got away with decent weather, but I could envisage one October being very wet which would make some bits of the course especially early on borderline dangerous.
However, we got lucky and a well organised number for what is a rotary club not an actal running club organising. That gets extra good points. Good marshalling...even getting hellos rather than just getting the standard keep going and well dones esque comments.
Good extras such as vicar blessingbefore the race, medal engraving and suchlike made this a good offering. well done frieth! Date of review: October 19, 2008
In short: Testing course greatly helped my cold good condiitons rather than usual baking heat! In full: having done this race in 2006 in the blistering heat was delighted to do it in a bit of rain and coldness! This explains doing it over 1min 40 quicker than in 06...well that and a big ramping up in mileage! Date of review: July 6, 2008
In short: some tough inclines in scenic venue In full: Had done this race in 2006, but forgotten it is some tough work! The multi terrain footing and constant ups and downs, some of them fairly steep made for a relieving feel at the finish
again as per 2006 the race had to be delayed. And again did I only see 2 toilets? Not good enough in a race with 400people. Date of review: June 1, 2008
In short: undulating multi terrain 10k or hm. One steep hill and couple of challenging climbss In full: part of our club championship so around 15 marlow runners made their way to this event, split between the 10k and half.
Luckily opted for the 10k as one particular real tough climb at around 9k would have called for incredibly strong mental strength to get up again!!
Some challenging climbs, backed uy the other side of the coin, some nice downhills. Multiterrain is definitely a fair description, with tarmac on roads, combined with mud trails, and also unstable rocky white gravel?! Made for an enjoyable trip out, with the hot weather just about holding off! Date of review: May 10, 2008
