In short: flat and fast, a new PB In full: Well organised, somewhere warm to wait at the start, not too crowded so you can run at your own pace after about a minute. A few little inclines but there seemed to be more down than up (cant have been as it was a circular route!). My only complaint was that they ran out of small T shirts even though you said on the form the size you wanted, also the Tshirt was a bit boring! Date of review: June 8, 2008
In short: really well organised and excellent value for money In full: A good pre marathon run, quite hilly but nothing really horrid. Loads of water stations with water in sports bottles and sports drinks (red and orange) in sports bottles stations after about halfway. Jelly babies, chocolate and cereal bars from around 8 miles so didnt need any of my own nibbles. Date of review: March 9, 2008
In short: had a great time In full: really well organised, nice scenery, lots of hills but only a few real killers. A few more water stations would have been good and energy drinks or gels or choc would have been nice as well. Its a long way to go on plain water! Date of review: February 10, 2008
In short: excellent organisation In full: The full marathon was not flat and since I was expecting flat I had not trained on hills so started to hurt at about half way.
Brilliant organisation, loads of marshalls, reasonable support on the course, high 5 drink was nasty but nice to have gels at several water stations. Last uphill bit was hard and impossible to sprint finish uphill at the end of a marathon! Date of review: October 14, 2007
In short: lots of hills and mud In full: This was hard work, the first half was mainly uphill, second half more downhill but the downhills were so steep or difficult underfoot that it was not reall possible to get up speed. It took me only 15 mins less to do this than to do a full marathon so that will give you some idea as to how hard it is - I walked quite a lot! Once I had stopped worrying about being so close to the back and getting my trainers dirty I started to enjoy it. well organised, lots of markings so impossible to get lost. Only 4 water stations with boiled sweets and biscuits at 1 of them. could have done with soft sweets and more biscuits!!! Date of review: August 19, 2007
In short: brilliantly organised In full: I really enjoyed this, my second marathon, even though it was windy it was better then my first marathon - FLM07 in the heat. Lots of runners but not too many to slow you down. plenty of water and LS stations, only dissapointment was the Tshirt looks a bit cheap and the nicer ones you could buy were sold out in my size!! Date of review: May 29, 2007
In short: excellent training for FLM In full: well organised, not much support on the route apart from the marshalls who were really good - encouraging and cheerful. The route is not the most exciting but better than doing this distance on my own. Chunks of mars bar given out on the second lap were a nice touch but could have done with more!! was dissapointed to get yet another large T shirt which I will not beable to weat!! In short: up and down all the way, very few flat parts In full: this was a training run for FLM and my first time at this distance. Started off very slowely so had fuel in the tank for the last few miles which I did faster than planned MP.
I would say that this is really tough if you are racing it but if you are doing it as a steady training run and not concerned about time then it is quite nice. Most people found the last 5km a killer but because I had plodded around I found it OK.
More water and sports drinks/food on the course would have been nice. Bananas at the finish were a nice touch but ripe ones would be better!!! Date of review: February 12, 2007
