In short: The best organised half-marathon I have experienced to date. There are so many things that are good about it: public support, variable surroundings, scenic sea views, post race facilities, goody bag, speedy result service. A great sense of occasion!! Date of review: June 3, 2005

In short: Roughly 8 miles of multi terrain, often hard-going up very steep hills. The largely downhill second part of race more than made up for it. Glorious weather in the Quantocks and thoroghly enjoyed the event. Long may it continue. Date of review: May 15, 2005

In short: weather was ideal, despite forecast. well organised/supported, with some carnival atmosphere. Finishing on track with plenty of support was a treat. Excellent dedicated internet site, though guntime and not chip time results published in local paper. In full: Thought the Express & Echo could have done a bigger feature of the run in terms of more photos and runner stories, etc. given the GWR's size & status. Medal was quite original but found T-shirt on the boring side. Organisation was first class and marshalls & helpers must be applauded. A gold star to the school band in Exeter High Street pounding out their rhythms & primitive beats, providing a much-needed lift to flagging runners. Date of review: May 5, 2005

In short: Well organised, marshalled & supported. Pre-race info excellent. Recommend 4 first time half marathon run. Nothing too daunting, with last mile or so mercifully descending to the finish line! Surprised no timing chips. 10/10 to race commentary! Date of review: April 4, 2005

In short: Not as flat as expected. Doing a loop a mile or so from end via railway station also unexpected, when bridge in sight. A mysterious discrepancy in finishing times despite use of timing chips. Some aerial indicator of start line might be helpful. Date of review: March 18, 2005

In short: Nearer 10.5 miles. Friendly, well marshalled, well-organised race giving the runner a taste of heavenly Devon in autumn, largely following the course of one of its finest rivers. In full: The course is definitely one for tree and river lovers! Thankfully, the predicted gales did not appear and spoil the event. The rain was tolerable if not welcome given the distance - the water stations and nearby river teign providing the full complement of H2O. Though numbers of participants had increased slightly this event truly deserves to be better supported. In my opinion it's quite a gem and strongly recommend it to novice 10-milers. You won't be disappointed providing you ignore fast times and just succumb to a slice of arguably the most picturesque part of Devon countryside. The pre- and post-run refreshments (including homemade cakes) at the community centre also deserves a special mention. Well done organisers, I will definitely return next year!
