In short: carlsberg dont do races but if they did this would be it .. In full: wow, what a fantastic race i can only guess that the organisers have looked at the best bits from other races and rolled them all into one and made this race...faultless from the parking, start, the route, water stations, lucozade stations, sweet stations, wet sponge stations, water sprayers, orange stations, fantastic marshalls, great medal and goody bag, beer, cakes, brass band, if you dreamed a perfect race this is it !!! oooh no just thought they missed something.. the topless blonde 38gg cheerleaders station :) oh well maybe next year :) to be serious i cant wait to do this again, what really made my day was meeting fellow ultra picnic runners from last saturday and swapping stories, so glad to hear some done it and some like me who failed, wonderfull race and getting a silver medal has got the feel good factor back in me.... In short: The most brutal run ive ever done In full: Firstly to everyone who completed the picnic you are legends....this was my 1st ultra and i failed :( after reaching the cut off point 6 mins to late it was all over for me, 1st i knew even if i a few mins quicker i would have been finishing in the dark 2nd i knew in my heart i couldnt do another 14 miles. despite this i enjoyed it so much the atmosphere, the friendly runners who encouraged me time and time again as we past each other, the superb marshals and most of all dr.rob for the faultless organisation of the race. As always a excellent t-shirt, medal and cap complete drinks and food at the finish. Today i dont know what hurts more the legs or the feeling of failure ?? i will be back on the hill for the knacker cracker. Date of review: June 24, 2012
In short: Amazing..... In full: I am no stranger to adventure races but this had to be one of the toughest ive ever done ! the recent weather made it one tough course and doing two laps certainly tests your stamina. Very well organised and a great atmosphere, the last wall is a killer but the oohh and arrghh i had from the crowd when i twice failed and slid back down made me even more determined to do it and on the third attempt i made it. i am covered in cuts and bruises but loved it and will be back again next year. In short: an amazing weekend In full: I think organising a race would be tough going but to do three is some achievement and fair play to the nice work team they pulled it off in style. east grinstead was tough and muddy but i loved it, haywards heath and a good mix of road and trail another great race and lastly burgess hill muddy and multi laps due to the weather but still i enjoyed it. The whole weekend was amazing, very well organised, fantastic marshalls, friendly runners and was nice to see the same faces day after day. this race will get bigger and bigger as word spreads which could make it even harder for the organisers next year. If i had one poor thing to say it is the medal for those who done all 3 races and done the 26.2 miles marathon medals should be big and bold and stand out from all others whilst the medals for the individual races were ok the one for all 3 failed to impress ! i would rather had no goody bags or t-shirt and had a better medal or small trophy for doing all 3 but thats just my opinion. well done nice work i cant wait to do it again next year :) Date of review: May 9, 2012
In short: day 1 of 3 In full: that was one tough muddy course mainly due to the recent weather but i enjoyed it (except the middle section that had no mud) well organised and marshalled. Date of review: May 9, 2012
In short: the best race in the world but still needs improvements In full: my 7th london and yet again the crowds were amazing without them i would never have done it as the legs were so tired after doing the brighton marathon the week before. For me this is simply the best race in the world but like others have mentioned it needs some tweaks i agree that since virgin took over they have cut corners the quality of the tops/jackets given to those rejected the past few years are worse than primark, the one size fits all finishers t-shirt does just that as i could fit my whole family in it. the finish also needs re-thinking within the space of 5 mins i had my chip removed got my medal and goody bag had my photo done and collected my bag from the lorry it then took me over an hour to get out and cross the park to get to victoria station for too many poeple in one area, if it was more organised with a walking route that was'nt blocked by those who just stand there (ive run a marathon and the last thing i want to do is stand still thank you) still having said this i hope i can do it all again next year as race day is my birthday :) Date of review: April 29, 2012
In short: getting better evry year In full: Having done the first brighton in 2010 i was worried that with a larger field it might cause problems but what credit to the orgainsers it was faultless from the start at preston pack to the finish. well marashalled and a fantastic course except the dockyards. amazing crowds that helped so much. great t-shirt and wonderfull medal have already enter for 2013. In short: a very well organised race In full: i travelled from west sussex for this race i thought i knew what the course would be like having lived in west croydon years ago but i was surprised how hilly this side of croydon was ! this was a very well organised race, excellent marshalls and a lovely medal. really enjoyed it and will be back again next year. In short: 1st time and loved it In full: what a great day ! very well organised event, lovely course and best of all a fantastic atmosphere from all the runners. i ran in my charity vest ( a very multi coloured Phab kids vest ) on the back i have the words London today Brighton last week ( my other vest has Brighton today London next week ) a BIG thank you to all those who ran beside me to ask (a) was i really stupid enough to be doing 2 marathons in 7 days (b) how was my training going (c) wishing me the best of luck
It really helped push me on and i finished 18 mins quicker than i planned !
Thanks to all the marshalls and to all those who cheered us on the track.
If im stupid enough to do a marathon (or 2 ) next year this is one race i will do again. Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: great course shame organisers let it down... In full: having run this in 2010 and saying never again i was told many changes had been made and so i gave in to temptaion to run it again :0 it is a brilliant course but that is it.... a very early start meant only one train from the west sussex side would get you there in time as with over 9000 runners parking was not a option,by the time we arrived at brighton we peeled from the train like sardines... having now put on the coloured race number showing my predicted time and race start area it was clear there was no marshalls at the start and so everyone just piled in to the start line ! so 5 miles of zig zagging around slower runners and those who started to walk after 2 miles why do they start at the front ??? then at the finish i thought i was slower than i expected and my garmin shows a distance of 13.54 miles which we now know was a error by the organisers... but wait more is still to come... what a nice touch that after you get over the finish line you got a foil jacket...which saved me as when i got to the baggage reclaim area no one was manning my numbered area and it took me 15 mins to get someones attention to get my bag so i could get some warm clothes on :( NEVER EVER AGAIN ... only done this again as it falled in my recovery week if its halfs you want then eastbourne and hastings are the ones...
