In short: Excellent race again In full: Another excellent Reading Half...only negative comment is that it would be nice to not have it on the weekend the clocks go forward! Organisation first rate, even nicer medal this year, great course and the weather even cooperated this year! Date of review: March 29, 2009
In short: Enjoyable race In full: Not a very scenic race, and I didn't particularly enjoy running on the roads next to some rather aggressive drivers. It was well organised event though, the marshalls were encouraging, the water being in bottles was a definite bonus, and the medal was very a good one. Undulating is a good description, it always seemed to be up or down! Date of review: March 1, 2009
In short: Fabulous! Loved it! In full: Had been slightly concerned about the organisation as my race pack did not arrive, but I was able to pick it up on the day without much queue (at 8.30 AM) Loved the T-shirt!
Did need more loos at the start. The baggage area was well run, with a bit of a queue to drop off, but no queue to pick up.
The race itself was just fantastic, the course went past many of London's landmarks, I absolutely loved it. The park section was just beautiful, with all the trees turning orange. The fabulous weather helped show London off at its best. It was a fast course as well, a few undulations but nothing that you could really call a hill. There was just the right number of runners, it wasn't too crowded, but a great atmosphere and excellent crowd support. Plenty of water stops, with the water served in conveniently sized sports bottles. Powerade as well for those who wished.
I really liked the wooden medal, completely in-keeping with the 'sustainable and organic' theme of the event.
As for the free goodies, I went home laden with stuff! Milkshake, powerade, curry sauce(!) jelly babies, raisins, bananas, red bull, yoghurts, fruit drinks, chocloate tiffin...the list just goes on.
I have already registered my interest for the 2009 race and will recommend this race to all my clubmates. It is a pricey race, but I thought it well worth the money. Date of review: October 12, 2008
In short: Not a runner, but... In full: I didn't run this one, but was interested in how my clubmates got on. A 'live results' service was advertised on the website, which completely failed to work. Looked for results yesterday evening, and there was a link saying results would not be available until monday night! Err, the race was chiptimed...Results should be available a lot earlier than the day after! What a shambles. Date of review: October 6, 2008
In short: Nice country lanes course In full: I liked the course, nice country lanes and quite scenic in places. Undulating but no really steep climbs. Three water stations plus a sponge station that also gave out water was ample on a very hot day. Great track finish and good changing/showering facilities at start and finish. Marshalls were all great :-) Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: Lovely countryside, rather hilly In full: Great morning out, a challenging course in places. Well marshalled and organised with sports massage, a BBQ and a pub at the finish! All good family fun. Nice scenic route, but don't expect a PB! Date of review: June 15, 2008
In short: Real PB potential. In full: Thought the race was well organised with plenty of bottles of water and sponges. The crossing over the road the whole time was a little odd, but i assume that was a mistake by the lead car that won't be repeated. I liked running down the sea front, and having laps did give opportunities to see fellow club mates and give them a cheer. Good spectator support. Nice medal. Date of review: June 8, 2008
In short: Challenging race, very well organised. In full: Very scenic rural race on country lanes. As the title of the race suggests, it is a hilly one! Organisation first class...encouraging marshals, tea in real mugs at the end, and the results emailed out only a couple of hours after the end of the race. Good work! Date of review: June 1, 2008
In short: A challenging but fun local village 10K race In full: First warm day of the year made this hilly/undulating race a good challenge. It always seemed to be uphill! The hill just before the sprint for the line at 10K point was painful. Overall a well organised and freindly race. Date of review: May 5, 2008
