In short: Was a good run until!! In full: Found out to my amazement that the Abbots Langley tough 10 which i've taking part in for previous years was to have no 1.5k kids run before the 10k this year due to health and safety reasons. What is this country coming to! Surely its better for kids health to take part in these sort of events what with kids getting fatter etc. When I found this out I though i'd not bother this year as a way of protest and and take the kids swimming instead. For whatever reason the ALTT organisers found it impossible to run the 1.5k run again this year I hope they see sense and realise that these sorts of Sunday mornings are for the kids too. In short: Hard, hilly and hot!! In full: What a glorious day. The sun really came out for this one which made it feel so much hotter than it probably was cause of all the rubbish weather we've had. Loved this race even though those hills were killers! The lack of mile markers after mile 8 was a bit of a let down as the not knowing how far we had gone left me feeling more exhausted, maybe next time i'll get myself a GPS so I know myself. The marshalling was excellent throughout especially at 15 miles when there was cake and plenty of drink after a long climb to reach it. Overall, well done to everyone who finished as this was one hard marathon. And well done to all the organisers and masseurs etc for a very enjoyable day. Date of review: August 10, 2009

In short: Hot and Hilly In full: First time for St Albans and wasn't dissapointed. I always heard that it was hilly but put that together with the fact that it was hot too and it certainly made it no PB potential. Plenty of water stations around course which made the heat very bearable. Altogether a great course and I for one will be back. Date of review: June 14, 2009

In short: More hills than expected, but well worth the effort. In full: What a day. This race was the first time i've done the Berko half and after doing the Watford half a month earlier which was hilly too, I was expecting much of the same. Forget it. As for hillyness this runs knocks spots off the Watford half. Only the lovely sunny weather and the scenic coutryside take away the pain of this run as hills were underestimated big time. Saying all that I only added a couple of minutes to the deficit of my PB and will be back for sure. I had read that the water stops in the past had been an issue, but on this occassion all organisation was hard to fault. As some have already said the parking was a bit of an issue. That big hill downwards between mile 12 and 13 was nice, but I hope that guy who was getting oxygen by medics turned out ok. Date of review: March 1, 2009

In short: Excellent race with good all round support In full: This was the first time i've done the Watford half and knew it was going to be hilly with some being on the mountanous side, but like moast people have already said it was surprise to get a PB too. The organisation with the marshalling and water stops were excellent with the addition of Galtorade also being supplied which when you have no gels on board really helped. The weather was frezzing but overall the run and atmosphere made up for it. Well done Watford, i'll be back. Date of review: February 1, 2009

In short: A very wet day but well worth the effort! In full: This is always a good race and this year was no exception albeit only the hardend runners came out for it as the weather was rubbish. It rained all the way around this course but on the up side it always has the effect of keeping you cooler. The only downside to this good overall race was that there was no clock to see what time you were coming in at on the finish line and of course I didn't think to ask at the time of crossing the line so when I went back they said they didn't want to get the results wet by taking them out of the plastic bag they were being stored in, a little unhappy about that but who knows might even get a faster time if the inks run. In short: A hot day that needs better organisation In full: Ran this 10k for the first time and I would say it was well worth it for the lovely run through the woods alone. But this was one of the hottest days of the year so far and there simply wasn't enough water stations and overall the organisation surrounding the aftermath was poor. Considering it was organised by the Round Table I expected better. Date of review: May 5, 2008
