In short: Chocolate Box Scenic with a fantastic atmosphere. In full: Very well organised, have never seen so many marshalls and all cheering on the runners. Route was great, just challenging enough and gorgeous scenery. The involvement of the zoo was great, we had a great day in the zoo after the race. We were very impressed and this is one for next year definitely. Date of review: March 22, 2009

In short: Route was ok - lack of prize let this race down! In full: As this was organised by British Military Fitness, I had high hopes. Car parking was disorganised (good job it hadn't rained or we would have been stuck in that field!). The warm up was good fun and the route overall was ok but I was disappointed with the lack of obstacles (only a crawl tunnel and a bog!). Scenery was lovely though and liked the forest section. Was appalled that we got nothing at the finish apart from a bottle of water and some dodgy tasting milkshake. To pay £20 and have nothing at the finish is extortionate. It would have been a good advert for British Military Fitness to have a prize for everyone. May I suggest a nice medal with a Camouflage ribbon next time? Date of review: March 21, 2009

In short: Flat, PB potential, depressing scenery In full: A flat and fast course with excellent PB potential, however if you're not a cheetah then the scenery is dull as ditchwater. An exposed course means it catches the wind. Could have done with some signage from the village, took us ages to find the airfield. Organisation was ok, venue was a bit run-down, better toilets and refreshments needed at the finish. Marshalls were very encouraging. Liked the medal, maybe spot prizes aswell would be good. Has potential to be a much better race. Date of review: March 10, 2009

In short: Clubby but friendly race, well supported by the locals In full: A scenic race, easy to get to, good parking with good, smooth organisation. I ran both the fun run and 10km (any excuse to up the mileage for marathon training!) and was pleased with the medal and chocolate egg for the 2km and the stylish memento for the ten km (made a change). Liked the optional t-shirts for sale with all the entrants names on the back. Nice flat course (bit windy) but find a tall runner at your pace and shelter (no probs). Good refreshments too and lots of local support. One for the 'favourites' list. Date of review: March 8, 2009

In short: Muddy, Wet, Painful but Tremendous! In full: This is one of the hardest races I have ever done, but also one of my favourites. Hills so hard they could make you cry and mud galore. The excellent weather made this race with views to die for. Pewsey Vale Running Club excel once again with the best organisation I have ever seen. Date of review: February 22, 2009

In short: A brilliantly organised, friendly 10km In full: Excellently organised, easy to find with lots of signage for race hq and start. Really well marshalled and everyone was really cheerful. Only downside was it was mostly roads, a bit more country would be nice. Just the right amount of entrants, anymore and the course would be too crowded. Date of review: February 15, 2009

In short: Good for a first try Brum!! In full: Apart from the horrendous parking near the start (good job we set out early!) it was well organised for a first race (I've seen worse, Dundee half marathon comes to mind!) loved the bands on the way round and the fact that there were lots of runners of all abilities. Enjoyed the course, lots to look at and support all the way round and lots of great marshalls, water and energy drink. Great medal and t-shirt, I won't harp on about the crowded finish area cos loads of other people have. THIS WAS JUST WHAT BIRMINGHAM NEEDED AND I WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!! In short: Brilliant fun though not for the faint hearted In full: As my first cross country it was challenging and certainly made me think of my trail shoes sitting snug in the wardrobe at home. Very slippy-fell into a ditch at one point. The insistent toot of the train kept me going and the runners camerarderie was great. Me and my other half are definitely going to beat the train next year. Only downside was there was no bacon rolls left in the refreshment tent. Date of review: August 20, 2008

In short: A PB course In full: Slightly undulating, nothing terrifying. A new PB for me of 37mins 16secs and like the bottle of beer at the finish. Date of review: August 7, 2008
