In short: Well organised and marshalled, chip timing removed any problems at the finish. In full: Not the most scenic race this one but the organisers can't help that. It's a very well marshalled and well organised race. Chip timing made it much easier at the finish and the fact that I think I was more than 2 mins faster than last time makes me more positive about it! I too noticed the odd motorist trying to assert themselves and another crunching his gearbox no doubt in anger at all these runners interrupting his Sunday morning retail experience. Thanks to everyone concerned in the organisation of this race. Date of review: August 20, 2006

In short: Well organised, well marshalled, scenic run mostly off roads, not the easiest but very good nonetheless. In full: My second year entering this race (ran better than last year -and faster). In a great cause, (so don't expect loads of goodies -a small token is appropriate anyway ). Run is very scenic and mostly off road although quite a bit on tarmacked tracks and a good stretch along the river ribble. Very well marshalled and organised. Runs in Preston are becoming a favourite with this as good as the other City one, if not better. Thanks to everyone concerned Date of review: July 30, 2006

In short: Different route but still a good race. Ran as well as I have for ages in spite of the odd hill here and there. Well organised and marshalled and three cheers to Preston council for being bothered to stage the event. -not to mention 5K and fun run ! In full: Enjoyed the couple of laps of the city first before going out to the river. I like running the river route -tends to take your mind off the grind. Well marshalled and organised. Have not enjoyed a 10K as much for ages despite the hills. Date of review: July 9, 2006

In short: Great fun event -a nice change from the roads In full: A good fun event this one. A nice change from the all -road 10Ks we are used to. Half of this is probably off road on canal paths, country footpaths and over fields as well as some road stuff (and over a railway bridge too en route). The place has a friendly atmosphere combining the start and finish with a village fete and a commentator at the finish to welcome you back. Oh, and it's more than 10K, more like 101/2K -you pass the 10K marker in a field a couple of minutes from the field! Date of review: April 7, 2006

In short: Excellent well organised race, well marshalled, great crowd support and a good mix of runners -a good one for a first (or only) half marathon In full: This is an excellent race for a half marathon novice, very well organised, well marshalled and there is a good mix of competitors. The advice to "walkers" was toned down this year but the message that you should be able to jog round is fair enough when you consider that they decline to increase the field beyond current limits. Second half harder than the first (as ever!) but overall a good course. Lovely scenery (except the odd breath of aviation fuel) and great support from the crowds and local residents. Nice atmosphere created by the announcer at the start and finish. Good facilities at the start including pre/post race massage opportunities. Not an all time favourite only because of the pain! I prefer 10ks. Although it would push the cost up chip timing might be a good idea as a few people think it might be an improvement -I have to agree. Overall a great event -well done and thanks to everyone who made it possible Date of review: March 20, 2006

In short: Well organised, well marshalled race. In full: This is a very well marshalled and well organised race in a pleasant area most of it down country lanes. Mostly flat so ideal for a first 10K -water station (small bottles) often unusual in March (and it was cold). Ideal for all standards. Second time I've done it (although slower this time) but I'll do this again Date of review: March 5, 2006

2005 BUPA Great Manchester Run 10K

In short: First time I've done this -worth doing for the experience In full: Even in the first wave there were loads of slow runners (and at 55.47)I'm not that fast. People walking after 400 m! Having to dodge loads of people in the first few k was really my only gripe. Carrying an achilles injury I wasn't in the mood to try and run faster but it would have been diffucult with the slow start. Plus side -marshalling, policing etc all very good in my view. The massive entry probably means we'll have to put up with the constant stopping and starting. A big fundraiser really. Date of review: May 22, 2005

In short: Undulating course which is typical of the terrain around Bolton. More interesting than the flat runs the hill on Lostock Lane no worse than that at the Bolton 10K but a little longer maybe.Good local run. Date of review: February 27, 2005

In short: A good race all runners should support In full: Runners should support races like this that are locally organised (and many did!)as an alternative to the high profile "City" runs that cost a small fortune. No doubt all the organisers and marshals gave of their time so thank you. You can't change the scenary but a welcoming attitude and a decent course makes all the difference.
