In short: Another year and another brilliant day out! In full: You cannot improve on excellence of this standard. Bigger town and city events take note. For £12 it was a joy knowing that most of that goes to St Michaels. How much do BUPA rake off from the GNR and this years Great Welsh Run? Again the organisation, marshaling and water stations was of the highest standard. There even seemed to be an increase in support as well this year. I'll be back!!! Date of review: May 21, 2007
In short: And hard rain's gonna pour...... In full: And local weather man Derek Brockway got it spot on! Absolutely chucked it down, but what a brilliant race. Not done this for a few years at it clashes with my all time favourite, the Hereford Half, which is now next week. Wonderful support from all those mad enough to stand and watch, the marshalling was superb, many thanks to HERO RALPH PATTINSON!!!! Good to see so many first timers out too! Providing there are no clashes I'll be back next year......with a brolly!!! PS If a small race like this can provide instant results perhaps some bigger events should look at the outstanding organisation here? Just a thought. Date of review: May 13, 2007
In short: A stroll in the park..... In full: ....I think not! Gosh I didn't realise just how steep it was through the woods. For the first time in years in a race I had to stop and walk (given that last years wiining time of 31mins for 5 miles is an indicator of how tough this race is). Nevertheless it was a cracking run, really enjoyable, the humour and support from the marshalls was superb (especially the lady who will be doing Herford on 20th May!) Well done Penarth and Dinas. Keep up this outstanding effort. Date of review: April 29, 2007
In short: A grand day out Grommit!! In full: Simply outstanding. The problems of organisation seem to have been finally laid to rest. The whole event from start to finish was superbly handled. There will always be complaints, the petty and the constructive(the daftest one I heard, and it was meant, was "Youl'd think there'd be more toilet roll. Can't they get that right?"). There just ain't pleasing some folk. My only "gripe"? That not all races are as well organised!. See you next year!! Date of review: March 26, 2007
In short: Nice to be back... In full: Last ran this beauty in 1994...this year managed a PB! Older, slimmer and faster! I will be back next year, I know I can go quicker. Only gripe (apart from the wind!), no Toblerones left! Thankyou to all the marshalls and the lady looking after the bags in The Spiceball! Date of review: March 12, 2007
In short: Another good race to end a good year In full: Really good run this. Serious without being eliteist as well which I think helps bring in new "Oldtimers" who may not normally race. Once again the organisation and marshalling was top notch, good to see so many old faces! See you all next year!!! Have a great 2007!!
In short: Room for improvement....again! In full: As much as I enjoyed this race I do feel that the organisation this year left an waful lot to be desired. The road closures were poorly established, I asked one Little Hitler the best way to get to the Castle and City Hall for parking and he said (without including the bad language!)...not a lot. His directions lead me back to another chap who redirected us back to Little Hitler again!Eventually abandoned car in Cathederal Rd. Time for these clowns to be taught a lesson in manners, imagine if you were visting Cradiff first time and were confronted by some pillock like that! It was bad enough for myself and guests who know the area pretty well!. Some confusion in the stadium, posssibly down to many youngsters been used as marshalls?. No predicted finish time starting posts? Was it a good idea to start both races together? And again dumb sods walking after less than a mile, again getting under the feet of the faster more experienced athletes. get a grip you muppets!!. Apart from that all was well, good medal and t shirt, plenty of water and Lucozade and again the marshalling around the course was second to none. Yet again well done and thank you to all who were there to help!! Things can only get better, don't think Mel James was involved this year so some of the above could be down to "teething problems"? Next year will see. All the best. Enjoy!! Date of review: October 15, 2006
In short: The Best In full: Without any doubt, the greatest race on Earth. It beats London into a cocked hat. The organisation this year was exactly right, though I do also agree with a comment about prats walking and still managing to start from the "wrong point". There will always be an arse or two who gets through the net. I reall cannot see how the event can be improved on. Pound for pound it really is the best. I do like my small sacle halfs as well by the way and still feel that Hereford is my own real favourite but certainly for a bigger event Newcastle to South Shields will never be beaten. See you all next year!! PS I finished 2860th in 1h 42m 31s,my son was 871st in 1h 32m 21s......next year I'll have him!!! Date of review: October 2, 2006
In short: For my money this is..... In full: One of the best 10Ks in the country. Excellent organisation any hitches there once were are now gone. Particularly pleased with proper marshalling for the entry and exit from the St Helens car park. Slight niggle with three "lumps" who were walking/waddling within a few minutes of the start, surely the time has come for these people to be redirected to the rear of the field or perhaps thrown out altogether? Radical maybe, but it's time for action. I'm not wanting to stop people taking part and doing their bit but it is very frustrating when given the amount of exposure and advise that is given to the slower runners/walkers to start further down the field many still think they are above the law. In short: Thankyou for the rain, the endless rain the sacred rain you gave me.. In full: ...and boy did it help! The previous 2 years have been hot and sunny and a bit of a struggle. This year managed a PB for my age(47) of 1hr 38mins 12secs. The support all the way round was wonderful, again the pipers excelled themselves in difficult piping conditions. Marshalling, First Aid, ATC all performed wonders again. I will be back next year,I feel now this race easily beats the Bath Half for it's whole way of being.
