In short: Tough tester enjoyable endurance race. In full: I made it 1.59.18 on GM but who cares this was a tough one but enjoyable. Bumped into the Tall figure of Forest Runner on the warm up track we "eased" the first mile and a bit out chatting etc..then checked my garmin 1st mile 7.45 oops. FR went off at his pace I went to a more comfortable 8.5 mm it was a Marathon Pace course not a Half the winner was in around 1.15 so that says a lot. Flat for two miles progressive hills with one bigish one up to half way, little bit of flat started chatting to a guy and lost concentration, then at 9 the BIG hill slowed down to struggle pace but run it yes you've guessed it, it was a HOD last for a bit over a mile I think. Downhill/Flattish for the last 2 an half by then I was Donald. Olympic finsih come into the stadium @ Dartford Harriers one lap and finish. Well organised worth doing Water stations well place would be good if they had some energy drinks at half way , no PB unless first race !!! Put it in your diaries if you fancy a challenge Date of review: July 25, 2006
In short: Paula & 118 man started this fun race In full: Well organised not as warm as last Sunday though. It was funny to see people sprint past me at 1K and see them coughing up at 3k unable to continue. Lots of walkers it was fun and a PB for me Date of review: July 21, 2006
In short: Hot Hot Hot and measured 6.5 miles on garmin In full: So much potential for being a great race. See Stephen's comments totally agree. Q Why did it measure longer ? Why start at 11.30 ? Why no goody bag ? Why so disorganised at the end ? Nike 10k at Vicky Park had none of these problems. Maybe Im just bitter cause I blew out and was 5 mins over the time I'd planned.
This should be a PB course really. Date of review: July 17, 2006
In short: Tough as Shoe Leather in the Freezer for 6 months In full: I will take my hat of if I had one to the ladies and gents who did the full version this was for the brave and silly alike. It was tough doing the relay on this high temperature day did first leg with Kwame on the 3rd see below). Our last man got lost ended up doing double. I've brout trail shoes now as you definately need them for this type of racing. Very nice massage at the end. Date of review: June 28, 2006
In short: Great race - excellent organisation big thanks to lovely people of Reading In full: Great day only hampered by injury before and during race. Lack of long runs before hand. Very well organised I had read of probs the year before only slight confusion with car parks and no zebra crossings to get to the "Olympic Village ". Very funny with all the guys taking a wizz in the stream with ladies running past warming up in full view ! Great. First two miles progressive hills stops most sane people from tearing off. A little run through Reading Uni at 4 nice.Reading town centre at 5/6 rapportous applause. The finish was great 5,000 people in Madjeski. I've got 8 bottles of Lucozade Sport "stop thief" :) Date of review: April 10, 2006
In short: Excellent Value In full: Excellent Value ! defo worth doing it if you live on and around Liverpool. Long trip from London. Well organised.
Didn't sleep a wink night before was swaying around trying to have a cold shower to wake myself up had 8 expresso got caught in the queue for the lavvies when firecracker went off. Weaved in and out on course for the 1.45 then the HILL. Never recovered from that really cramp in hammies and foot was painful (i think I tied me laces too tight ) excellent experience. Bottom Line 1.55 24s
In short: Tough race not for the fainthearted In full: Organisation was a bit muddled runners just going out in spurts. The race started with lots of runners still going getting to the start. Lots of Undulating !! when does this become hilly it felt hilly to me. Maybe Im a lightweight Date of review: December 29, 2005
In short: Short race I signed up for a 10k not a 9k In full: Scenic and very hot only one water station is not good enough as people were collapsing. Organisers need to be flexible given the heat. It could be such a good run if only the distance was correct and facilities were good. Date of review: September 5, 2005
