In short: Smooth organisation, good vfm, high potential race. In full: Great 10k. Challenging to do three laps but on a slightly cooler day would be PB potential. Not totally flat but interesting to use a race track and choose the lines. I wonder if they could take a leaf out of London and trace a blue line through the course. Would be helpful. Goody bag dropped down in estimation and would still prefer a medal to a t-shirt but still good VFM. Sorry that the names of runners pre-entered not on numbers this time. That was a nice touch. Great to see results up so quickly after the event. Parking good. Atmosphere good. Could have done with more water/water marshalls at the end. Massage table (fre) a bonus this time too. Will be back Date of review: August 7, 2007

In short: A tough 7.1 miler, which reaches the parts others cannot reach. Great as part of a training programme to ensure hill work! In full: Race spoiled bu the fact that many competitors were deprived of t-shirts as early finishers apparently blagged a few too many. Could have been clearer that there were not medals for all finishers. That said, well marshalled and supported for a small, local event. Plenty of water. Stunning scenery and a really challenging course. Deserves greater support and with a few organisational tweaks could greatly improve. Personally would not want to see the mile markers on this course and must reflect that it would be difficult, given the multi--terrains to reflecy accurately. Love the idea of this race but git to say it was tough. Maybe I'll change PB potential to 100% as there are so few 7.1 mile races Date of review: July 31, 2007

In short: Good, fast undulating course, well marshalled and dry again In full: Route change great for car parks etc and off sets the run past the finish and loop back of around 2k. Loss of changing/showers a small drawback for the further travelled runner. AS ever, friendly crowd, well marshalled, good commentary at the end. Glad everyone gets a t-shirt now, but I and several others rue no medal, which lasts longer anjd takes less storage room. Good water supply but question siting at 4k 8k and finish...led to a bit of waste. Great organisation of a full family day. Ran this as first time race for/with my son and really enjoyed it. Will be back with him next year and looking for a quicker time. Wel done againe to all concerned with this event. Date of review: June 24, 2007

In short: Fairly fast, cheeky little course, very friendly. In full: More runners than I expected. Some grading at the start, especially with almost 500 runners, would have helped regular runners into their pace quicker. Lost over a minute weaving through many people who ended up walking in the first mile. Playful course, with just a hint of a breeze if compared to Silverstone last week. Great downhill run to the finish, but beware speed bums and narrow arch. Lots of encouragemnt in the college and most runners were happy to push/pull each other on. Very friendly. Only build form a personal viewpoint is I would prefer a lasting memento, e.g. medal/plaque/coaster/mug to yet another t-shirt. Date of review: March 26, 2007

In short: It's a good, well organised, well supported challenging event. In full: For a race that's been voted number one so many times it has a few opprotunities. I went down to run the race with afriend who lives locally and the race route lived up to expectations. The organisation at the start, finish, baggage and loos left a lot to be desired. Start was chaotic with an early tight harpin into a hill and clearly many people were in the wrong zone. Having stood in the right pen, I was not overtaken by many but passed hundreds and finished in predicted time. We did not hear the start gun but just felt the movement and saw the clock ticking. There were enough water stations but the tables etc were not long enough, especially the first and could be missed. The crowd support was fantastic on a glorious day for running and spectating. Nice touches at the end with the scouts pouring out hot tea and there was water but the marshalling to and control of these was non existent. I know it's a charity focussed event but a souvenir horse brass, no goody bag but with the opportunity to buy a martingale for your brass and t-shirts at £18 I felt was a bit steep. It is a great event, well supported but I would not put it in my top five halves and does not score for me on value for money. Date of review: March 12, 2007

In short: Despite horrendous weather it went like clockwork In full: Big events could learn from this. Number had pre-entered runners' names on. Chips and straps for the chips both issued on the day. Results available a stroll from the finish, overall, gender and category. Well marshalled. Okay, it's a race circuit, it's three laps but on a good day a pb is almost certain. It's never going to be picnic material but it's not bad if you could see through today's driving rain. The wind was constant, sometimes a plus others not on this very exposed course. Duchtubs not being used much outside in the force 10 but understandable and heaven help the souls doing both the 10k and the duathlon, especially with the cool down in between. Great vfm goody bag,(Water bottle, food, energy stuff and t-shirt...)almost overload and would personally swop for medal, towel etc but hey, they did well. Journey to and parking at the venue straightforward. This race has great potential and deserves more, much more support. I will be back. Catering facilities adequate but tea and coffee could both be stronger for my palate would be my one big build Date of review: March 4, 2007

In short: Usual good organisation, friendly welcome and cracking race In full: Once you conquer the first few miles of undulates and the downhill mile 5-6 then it's a playful run along the coast with stunning views to the French coastline. Nice medal and t-shirt. Great pockets of pleasant and encouraging local support, well organised finish. Great excuse for a weekend away to one of the nicest destinations in the UK Date of review: November 19, 2006

In short: Well organised, playful course and good vfm In full: Small improvements to consider. Year on the medal or ribbon and differentiate the events. One sports drink would be good. There was pleanty of water. Longer pass through the finish. marshalls too close to line as were the other bits and bobs considering 400m downhull to the finish. lots of positives. Plenty of loos, plenty of theatre, well organised start, enough marshalls, support in many areas, adequate water, t-shirt, medal, Mars Bar and water at end, hills not as bad as thought they would be...more undulating than hill although dragged on a bit, enough to test, oarking close to start and good baggage control. Even the weather held up. Might be back next year and see if I can improve on my time, but it won't be a pb! Date of review: October 15, 2006

In short: Same route as 1/3 last year, well organised, great event In full: Some touches other races could benefit from : Gents urinals, channelling at start and finish, sequential collection of medal, water, drink, baggage tents in obne side and out the other. Smooth event. Two small gripes a) medal keepps falling offf ribbo and think some may lose on way home and b worst quality and colours for t-shirts in the last few years. Great to see a pregnant Paula Radcliffe out for a jog, but disappointed Lord Coe couldn't join us commoners. Date of review: October 8, 2006

In short: Huge potential, needs to concentrate, should do better. In full: Where to start. Pens appalling, overcrowded, poorly signed and could not even get into mine 15 mins before the delayed start. If it was HASAW, the problem on the Portway, surely those fast wheelchairs would have run into trouble as they started on time. Pens poorly controlled. Took five mins to start, thank goodness for the chip, but no mats until finish so what chance of split times and poor control. Power walkers and fun walkers and slow runners all clearly allowed in faster pens. Too many twists and turns and narrows to really fulfil potential given start organisation. Never said this before, but too many drinks stations and what a waste as many, many discards 75% plus full causing slip and trip hazards. No need for the last one surely. Finish poorly organised and difficult to meet up. New route better than old, crowd support fantastic, marshall superb, St.Johns etc in full demand as there seemed a lot of collappses but all being attended too. Were there too many runners, did they bite off more than could be chewed, don't know but expected better from a half that's being going as long as this. Goody bag an oxymoron. More lucozade sport and a shed load of leaflets. Don't know what happened to the bananas and certainly a bar of some description, cereal/choc/energy wouldn't be too much to ask for. Save the environment if that's the contents and just give out the drink. So much potential. Bristol needs to try harder next term if it's going to please more. Date of review: September 17, 2006
