In short: Well organised charity event In full: Low key well organised charity event,it was billed as a maraFUN,had route instructions to follow - but it was very well arrowed. It was novel stopping and waiting at pedestrian crossings over a few major roads. Date of review: May 11, 2009
In short: Very well organised - you got exactly what you signed up for ! In full: Very well organised, on my own a lot of the time however the route instructions were very clear.Great marshalls and showers and food at the finish. If other organisers came here they would be very envious. In short: Well organised, the on course marshals were terrific in the conditions. In full: Very well organised event, great welcome at the hotel before and after.Tough weather conditions - anyone know what the strength of the wind gusts were - and a real Cornish pastie at the finish.Excellent Date of review: March 8, 2009
In short: Well organised event - Full entry shows its popularity In full: The snow made it picture postcard material, one or two slippy bits on the roads early on with black ice - but fine if you took it gently.Great checkpoints with cake for all and a simple meal at the end. Date of review: March 6, 2009
In short: Organised by runners - says it all In full: From entry form, through to race instructions, the great marshalls and results - all so extremely well done - now if we could have one year without the ......wind ! The alpacas were out for first few laps - then they even took cover ! Date of review: March 6, 2009
In short: A lot of road for what was supposed to be a trail type Ultra. In full: From what I understand these were experienced race organisers - so why the queues to register - about 15 mins - why the poor car parking info - there appeared to be planty of parking at the venue - why so much road - there would have been over 5 miles on the original course - why did so many runners go off route. On the plus side the on route marshalls at drinks, the keeper of the gate and the "singers" at the bottom of the hill were great. No cups at the end lap 1/start lap 2 - we all shared a mug ! Date of review: March 2, 2009
In short: Improved on 2008 but still well below average. In full: All the previous comments say it all. Very expensive for such a below "average" event. Lap counting idea was good - however the wrist bands were very difficult to rip off. Great marshalls on the course. Just poor at the race Headquarters before and after the eventalso standing out at the start line shivering for 10 mins or so-why ? Wonder how many runners went home without the t/shirt or the medal ? and why why why a mile plus to the race headquarters after the finish. Date of review: January 31, 2009
In short: Why the queues ? Start/registration and at the finish ?? In full: Expensive at £17 for a trail marathon + busfare £4. Bused from finish to start, buses travelled in convoy, so we all arrived together - why ? The poster telling you where to queue were at knee level - so of course we could not see them, Q to register, Q for black sacg and tag.Route - well marshalled - 2nd half made tough in places as we tried to pass half marathoners in narrow places. However, after finishing and after asking I was told momentos in the school, so I went to the school and found another long long very slow moving Q - just what you need after completing a marathon - just one guy handing out medals and t-shirts - why ? This finally spoilt a good day - took an hour to get from the finish line to my car - parked within a 100 yarsd of the finish.... Nice event - but please sort out the Q's.
In short: Nice event - but expensive for an ordinary road marathon. In full: False start for the mrathon ! Marshals were friendy and supportive. Last few miles along the sea front were not too clear - a lot of people about - not many marshals.Reduce the goody bag, keep the Xtra Large and Large t/shirts, and just give one momento - and reduce the entry fee.
