In short: Low key local race In full: Just back from illness and this was a steady run to ease me back in, no major problems (don't know why there was a late start, the written insructions sent out made the 10am start clear) and a pleasant day to boot. Road running was built on the back of local races like this, no frills low key running, how it used to be. Date of review: February 18, 2007

In short: Tough start but views to die for. In full: Made the long trip from S Yorks in the rain which lifted for the start. Facilities at the track were OK but they could've swept the puddles from the car park (only kidding!) A long pull uphill which eventually flattened out with extensive views over the countryside on quiet roads followed by long downhill sweeps. Even got to watch some football on the way to the finish, had to watch out for the impatient drivers though. Only one niggle and that was the people who'd finished strung across the road oblivious to those of us just finishing on the road leading to the track finish - have some regard for us plodders please! Nice event Blackburn, worth the journey. Date of review: February 11, 2007

In short: PB course In full: Echo what others have said, PB course made even better with new start & finish, out and back course on main road a bit dull for us plodders but can't complain at excellent organisation apart from one small moan, start could have been a bit better marshalled and ditto the finish with the usual gossipers and supporters clogging it up, but that's down to the runners not thinking I suppose. Well done DRR, back next year. Date of review: February 4, 2007

In short: Only 5 miles? :-) In full: By 'eck it felt more than that! Worth venturing across the Pennines for, easy enough to find despite the instructions, low key well organised no frills trail race, tarmac/tracks/paths/grass and plenty of mud, no mile markers but who cares?, plenty of ups and downs in glorious scenery, cruel uphill finish with bottles of water and jaffa cakes, will do it again. Thanks BVR. Date of review: January 14, 2007

In short: Flat, fast and furious... In full: Can't fault it, yes - parking's tight so get there early and the enthusiastic marshalls will do their best to help, crowded start but soon thins out, flat out & back course through pretty countryside, muddy finish but heh, it is winter! Goodie bag to boot! Happy New Year! Date of review: December 31, 2006

In short: Excellent undulating course and organisation In full: Nothing to fault, comprehensive pre-race info, good facilities, crowded start with the usual no brainers too far forward but soon spread out on closed roads, out into the countryside on a well marshalled gently undulating course, slick finish with no hanging about as area taped off, (major gripe of mine at any race being a plodder), always something different as a memento, this year a running watch, well done NEDRC - always a pleasure to take part. In short: Usual chaos at start & finish... In full: Becoming hopelessly overwhelmed by the numbers running with the finish area totally inadequate. Harsh? - yes, but it does spoil a potentially excellent event due to a flat & fast course out to Kirkstall Abbey and back with enthusiastic marshalls. I stopped entering the GNR for the same reasons as I got a bit fed up with dodging in and out of other runners for mile after mile. The one announcement I did hear over the ineffective tannoy system was that the start's moving to outside the Town Hall which should help, but what about the finish? The runners themselves have a lot to answer for by starting too near the front and ignoring others and by clogging up the finish at the end when they should get out of the way. It must have took me nearly 15 minutes from finishing to clearing the finish area - thanks guys... Next year? maybe... Date of review: November 26, 2006

In short: Well organised race let down slightly by the stretch on the main road In full: My only gripe in an otherwise well organised run is that uphill stretch on a main road in the first half. The second half is beautiful through a country park - would it be feasible to look at 2 laps in the park and keep away from the traffic fumes? (White van man on a Sunday morning in a hurry!) Well marshalled throughout, facilities OK, usual scrum at the finish thanks to the dipsticks that insist on gossiping and getting in the way of us plodders at the back, nice pudding to take away. Thanks Heanor RC. Date of review: November 21, 2006

In short: Not for the faint hearted! In full: As hard a race as I've done for a few years! Entered without really knowing the area or course although I thought it might be up and down and I wasn't wrong... Village organised run with pleasant touches such as complimentary hotpot afterwards, limited facilities but I go ready changed anyway, start area well marshalled next to main road, steep uphill start in to the countryside and then a roller coaster ride all the way, not knowing the course meant a conservative start which helped and the steep downhill finish was welcome. Food and drink at the village hall a nice touch if a tad overcrowded but enjoyed the event on the whole. Next year? See how the legs feel today... P.S. - hope you find the 2 mile marker! Thanks for something different. Date of review: November 6, 2006

In short: Hard day out in glorious countryside In full: Can't fault the organisation, excellent venue, uphill start, easy few miles around country park then the hills... Good fun though, downhill finish and excellent shirt. Well done Redhill RR. Date of review: October 22, 2006
