In short: Well organised, some nice scenery between the villages, did anyone else notice the thatched house ? In full: As always, this event is so well organised, from the maps/directions to the wonderful marshals. Its also great to have a large indoor venue to meet with pals both before and after - tellible weather for 2 laps - then some sunshine - but the marshalls smiles all through it ! In short: Good effort but the late start was a real put off !! In full: Like many others - up at 5.00am to get into London to get coach to the start - many of us geting the coach needed a loo before the drive to the start - at least there were trees ? Then after the coach drive - just where were the registration people ? No numbers and chips - just empty tables, eventually arrived - then the queues, first for numbers and chips - then run out of safety pins - then queue again for tags for baggage !
Then - 10.00am start became 10.27am - organisers need to remember people come to this event by planes, trains etc and had other things planned - one lady had flown in from Newcastle and had a return flight to catch - another needed to get to Albert Hall for festival of Remembrance - the late start gave them unecessary stress. Then - the trip round the playing fields was never ending and then we found, after thinking we had run good times that it was a short course. The medal was probably the worst I have ever received at any event, a pity for those completing their first marathon. The entry fee was steep for a trail event, but it was for charity.
Having said that - well done for getting a new marathon on the calendar - great marshalls - if its to grow - needs bigger venue for start, and if you advertise showers - then they need to be at least fairly decent.
In short: Wonderful event - no wonder so many return every year ! In full: Great scenery, loads of runners, a swim at the finish and then a meal - great - roll on 2008 Date of review: November 11, 2007
In short: Well organised winter marathon/challenge. In full: Organisers really care for the runners with all being counted throughout the event - which with this years atrocious weather was extremely important - wondered just after the half marathon split point if I had done the right thing ! However, the marshalss were all there - they even had to open my gels at a couple of CPs ! The thought of a hot breakfast kept me going - well done Steyning - a big thank you to all who looked after us all day. Date of review: March 9, 2007
In short: Well organised - excellent marshalls In full: Well organised - excellent marshalls but it was a really expensive event. Most marathons on the Downs cost between £5 and £15 - some include meals ! Scenery very disappointing - lot of the run was between high hedges/trees so no views.
In short: Needs to start earlier - organisation improved on 2005 In full: Mullti lap event - the lap counting still not 100% - people I had overtaken finished in ront of me. After last years debacle I counted my own laps. Safe well marshalled route. 11.30 start too late : most people have to get home and go to work following day !
