In short: new location and new challenges In full: Its moved from Bures and overall I preferred the new location. There's longer flat bits, but the obstacles are more varied and not just going round the pits. Water hazards were very cold, and the big mud pit was impossible second time around. Despite a long drive I'd run (and crawl, climb, swim) it all again. Date of review: April 10, 2013

In short: Ok start for a new race In full: Course is ok, 2 flat laps through a park in central Chelmsford. It was a bit lacking in atmosphere, partly due to low turn out and definitely not helped by the v cold weather. Like many I didn't realise that the finish was slightly further on from the start, so the last few hundred metres came as a bit of a surprise. Date of review: April 10, 2013

In short: First tri but enjoyed it In full: My first triathlon and I enjoyed it. I will return next year, possibly for the longer distance, but two laps of the swim seems daunting already!
Swim seemed ok - some confusion over the course, but I guess most people just follow the person in front. Cycle was fine and well marshalled, though i'd agree the final section into the park could have done with a few more marshals. Run was both good with the seafront section, but that added extra obstacles with visitors and spectators straying on to the course. I thought the crossovers went ok, and didnt have any problems.
To be fair to the organisers this was only their second Maldon tri and they've recognised problems with the run and spectators. I didnt have any problems with transition, but may have been helped by a few around me not turning up and others not being aroud when I was passing through. Date of review: July 24, 2012

In short: nice race and course In full: I would echo previous comments about this race - its a nice 2x5 mile course. Its deserves a better turn out, but is competing against a lot of events in the area. Date of review: May 8, 2012

In short: nice challenging run In full: I enjoyed this run, and other than a few teething problems it had good organisation. Course is quite challenging - both the terrain and the navigation round the woods. But the atmosphere was good and I'd make the effort to return next year. Date of review: September 18, 2011

In short: A different 10k, but well worth it In full: Really enjoyed the motor cross section, though the hills were pretty tough in both directions. Atmosphere was good, and organisation worked , though there were problems with the final lap of the motor cross bit, and to me it seemed a bit short for the second half, especially after the 7k marker in the field. Car parking was bit disorganised as although they had marshalls showing the way in, once there it was a free for all and i was blocked in by late comers. Date of review: May 17, 2011

In short: very different, but worth the effort In full: I found this great fun, and certainly more interesting and challenging than the normal road race. Its a bit like the Benfleet 15 but with attitude.
There were a few teething problems, though i collected my race number on the day without problem. The course is challenging, and for a first time event was good. Though I would agree maybe a few more obstacles and less repeat crossing of the fields, but not sure how they would keep the miles without leaving the site.
Main problem was that I also lost the course fairly early on, and was then wrongly directed by a marshall to do the final lap too early. But I was able to rejoin the course fairly easily (lift in the course director's buggy) and completed it without problem. So I guess I just got an extra few miles for free.
Would definitely do it again, and imagine it would be quite challenging in the cold and wet. Date of review: May 17, 2011

In short: well organised, nice flat course In full: Impressively organised for a first time event, and didnt seem too bad having to run two laps.
Would agree with others that the finish was a bit of killer! I'd definitely run it again, and would know what to expect next time, but it would be nice if we could get those extra yards out of the way somewhere along the course and have a straight finish at the stadium. 2010 The Saucony Chelmsford 10K

In short: Its ok - with some oddities In full: Run this one before and didn't enjoy it, but came back this year and was pleasantly surprised. The course is ok with some nice country lanes and the odd slope or two, though the last mile back is bit urban. The odd start of 2pm is due to the neighbouring football pitches which host much of the local sunday morning football. Facilities aren't great, but the club house is fairly large (if crowded). Its a bit of a trek to the start, but at least you finish in the right place. Tshirt was ok this year, but no water was a bit unforgivable. Date of review: November 22, 2010

In short: New race, nice course, well organised & deserved better turn out In full: A new Friday evening race, and clashing with the football meant this had a pretty low turn out, especially when compared with last weeks event at Howe Street. Course was ok, and well marshalled, and overall the race deserved better support.
Hopefully the organisers will keep at it and next year it gets more runners. In the end it seemed a better option than the football! Date of review: June 19, 2010
