2013 2013 Derby 10k

In short: Annoying number of switchbacks on the route but excellent support and refreshingly competitive at the sharp end.
In full: The good: truly excellent crowd support for a road 10k along the entire route there was somebody cheering you on. Slick organisation with penned starts and a long finish funnel. Refreshingly competitive at the sharp end of the race.
The Bad: Routes with switchbacks, seriously route planners stop it! If you must do it at least give us a decent turning circle. Us older runners have the turning circle of a barge at full pace.
The not so sure: Garmins are always wrong if there's cover or excessive daft switchback/dog leg turns on route, but it really did "feel" a little over distance between the 9k marker to the finish. Though I am grasping at straws as I was 1sec off my pb and thought I had 20secs to spare as I went past the 9k marker.

In short: excellent race, marshals everywhere, friendly crowd
In full: Excellent race, no real negatives. Though podium medals or even just easter eggs for the winners would be nice.

In short: something a little different, well run and v friendly.
In full: Potentially a v nippy course if the wind stays away. Friendly crowd and running round the circuit is a lot more fun than it sounds.

In short: up and down route, very well organised and welcoming
In full: A friendly very well organised race with an interesting route. No negatives apart from I was a halloween carrot not a pumpkin! Running as a pumpkin would have been silly.

In short: twisty- needs the council to really get behind it
In full: if they dropped the overly twisty detour through the estate all the negatives would disappear. this could be a cracking mid size race if the council committed to a few road closures to ditch the housing estate detour. if you ignore those couple miles the course is undulating, varied and about as good as you re going to get for a city course. I am biased as its my childhood town and I can remember the heady days of thousands of people with jimmy saville trundling past the family house. I'll definitely be back and hopefully with a few more speedsters to chase.(i ran the 1/2)

In short: good debut, needs a little work and i hope it returns next year
In full: some pretty sharp hills and turns on the course but they ve done the best they can with the location. enjoyed the town finish. could do with more signs up and a finishing funnel.

In short: the wind I can accept...really poorly thought out finish just lazy organisation
In full: The course was indeed quick if you take out that evil wind. I was loving the seaside did nt even mind the empty bits out of town, but that finish! Great crowds 4 speedy people at the finish, but then we could nt get back to the area, the, the water was a walk away, the finish 'village' was a trek away and getting back to the city was just a pain. Annoyed me enough not to come back.

In short: heartbreak hill.
In full: its a friendly well run race, but those hills! We do use the bestwood scale when we rate how tough a 10k route is.
