In short: Fantastic Weekend. A cut above the rest
In full: First ultra and so have little to compare it with. However, the organisation was fantastic, the checkpoints excellent, the entertainment for those who slept over for saturday night was well thought out. Great presentation given.

Really classy. You get the feeling Neil, the organiser, is a great guy and loves his work. And it feeds off into the weekend.

See you next year :)

In short: A tough Christmas beasting
In full: Make no mistake this was a tough marathon. Skiddy and muddy and with the wind in the face for much of the return journey. There's fat chance of achieving a marathon PB unless its your first, but who cares. It's a bloody good run out in advance of the Cmas over indulging! Don't take it too seriously, just go out and do it. I appreciated the work out :)

In short: Could quite easily be a classic..
In full: Pros: Amazing Scenery / Friendly banter / A real challenge / Excellent Value / Probably the best medal around!

Cons: Seriously short of water stations. Only 3 visits in 16 long, slow, arduous miles. Signage is limited and more markings are required. I've done about 30 of these trail runs over the last few years and have got lost only 3 times - twice of these have been at Hogweed Muggles.

But it's a great event. I figure if those 2 issues were addressed, it'd be an absolute corker, perhaps my all time favourite.

In short: Slick, great fun and definitely one for the calendar!
In full: Was supposed to be doing the marathon on the day, but other arrangements got in the way. But being 2 laps there was the opportunity to turn it into a half. Good stuff.

However, that was only a minor point of personal satisfaction. This is beautiful countryside, a race which takes itself lightheartedly but delivers it in a very friendly manner. Great marshals, excellent entertainment at the start. Slick organisation and not too big to be impersonal. This might change as word gets out. Get onto it soon! The organisers put other companies such as Human Race to shame. Good work guys :)

In short: Hard going but good fun!
In full: A good race. Very well run, extremely friendly marshalls and good support on the way round. Thankfully the sun came out a short way in the race so the red poppy fields and yellow (another plant!) fields where shown off nicely. Good value and worth doing. Perhaps not quite in the same scenery bracket as The Meon Plod or The Nine Edges Endurance race run over a similar distance, but an enjoyable day out anyway. Appreciated the goodie bag with tshirt and medal plus other treats. And a bag of crisps!

In short: A perfect, friendly, smile enducing rural race :)
In full: This is the 3rd time in 4 years I've done this race. The other 2 have been in glorious conditions showing the course of at it's magnificent best.

Beautiful Hants countryside with yellow fields, styles and the magical river Test. But this time it rained. And boy did it rain!! But the way this was handled with such a smile and a British stoical atmosphere was a joy. Marshalls who smiled through some of the worst conditions seen for yonks. And a lovely village hall with cake and tea and friendly runners. And organisers who really were interested. Why pay £30 for foul ups like last week (The Demon Run) when you can pay a tenner for a great rural course with a cracking atmosphere. I'll be back!

Will put a proper review up in the week on my blog: http://www.runningtowork.co.uk :)

In short: hugely let down by uneccesary errors
In full: I've done numerous of these over the last few years and sadly this was the most poorly organised of the lot. On the positive side, the course was interesting - taking us under cargo nets and through tunnels, etc - and the let downs brought people together to create a decent atmosphere. The cheerful controller was useful in keeping the mood positive!

However, there's a big BUT. The race started 50 mins late as I understand one of the organisers had put their car in a ditch (spirits were still high, probably due to the sunshine), the route marking was terrible and the 5 and 10 mile races converged at the end to create maximum confusion.

Credit to the helpful young marshalls who had no doubt to cope with some fed up runners.

The start of the race saw the whole pack stop after about a mile because the route had been lost already. There just seemed to be no markings and shoulders were shrugged and hands thrown in the air!. We eventually stumbled upon it after another 5 or so minutes but by then the race was over as any type of contest. It wasnt the strongest or biggest field, probably due to the London Marathon, and the camaraderie was good as everyone pulled together. I can just imagine the scenes if a really competitive field had turned up to race....

A shame as it's a stunning forest and they laid out an interesting track, but the fundamentals need to be right. If it had been raining hard I think it might have been carnage..!

In short: Over priced tosh
In full: Maybe it was the weather, but unless I had an event to train for then I'd give this a real swerve. 4 grey laps around a bleak lake with nothing but a few diesel coloured sheep to take your eye of the parked cars. The race had to be put back 15 minutes due to parking delays. What was that all about? People were forced to park upto 2km from the start line despite having turned up an hour before the start. Gridlock. Not a major fan of HumanRace.

I hope my review doesnt spoil anyone's enjoyment of their run, but look thru this website for inspiring runs in beautiful English countryside at half the price. And run by people who are actually passionate about what they do. Not just to make money.

In short: Lordy lordy, my legs hurt
In full: Errm, who decided to arrange for a bunch of masochists to run around a super long tough course in the icy grip of winter for the name of 'fun'?! But what fun it is! Great course, not too tough but certainly no slouch, the difficulty came from the length rather than the hills (altho they are not to be sneezed at!). Friendly marshalls, excellent snacks, super views, free tea and stuff at the end, and everyone had a smile on their faces. Got back home, roast on, claret opened, and a warm glow all over. This is what Britain is all about in the winter, a good mix of eccentric running and some rewards afterwards. Get involved!

Thanks for such a great run

In short: Winter scenery at it's best!
In full: A definite fixture in the calendar. It was well below freezing at the start this morning but the scenery was mind blowing at the tops of the hills. Glorious winter sunshine. Not too challenging a course, just enough uphills and downhills.

My only gripe would be the value, or possible lack thereof. £16 with no toilets, no goodybag (aside a banana and flapjack), and no free Goodness Shake anymore. Just starting to look a little bit expensive, pls dont go down the Human Race route!
