In short: Great race, shame about the organisation In full: I do this one every year. Lovely scenery, great marshals, challenging hills, beautiful weather. And a banana at the end. But ...
Chaos at number pickup because you couldn't see which queue to join till you got to the front. Longest queue ever for bag drop - we gave up and ran back to the car (which saved a huge wait at the end as well). Mayhem at the finish line where you could hardly get over the chip timer hump for the crush beyond - and the guy on the desk seemed more worried about a medal that had gone missing than getting people moving through. Hope you can do better next year, Marlow! Date of review: November 9, 2016
In short: Very nice though surprisingly cold in the wind In full: I do this one every year, and I thought this year was particularly good. Not as many entrants as usual so less crowded at the start. Cheery marshalling (and they must have been properly cold). Banana and chewy bar much appreciated. Best time since 1999 - yay! Date of review: March 8, 2016
In short: Don't know why I forget to review this immediately In full: ... oh yes, I did a rubbish time and was absolutely knackered. But that's no-one's fault but my own. Re a comment below about the goodie bag - I was so pleased to see the banana and the energy bar I could have burst into tears. Compare Watford = no food at all. Keep it up Berko! In short: Not one to tackle after a party ... In full: ... so my stonking PW is not too surprising. The great weather and cheery marshalling made it bearable, at least until the puddles. It would be really nice to get a banana or something at the end. I'd swap my medal for one like a shot. There was 1 stall but the queue was long and slow moving because they were also selling burgers - so maybe have another stall for instant food? Date of review: February 4, 2014
In short: Blooming lovely In full: So much nicer in sunshine, and with no risk of drowning. That just about made up for a rather feeble performance. Probably underestimated the hills again. Date of review: November 8, 2013
In short: Lovely route but a lot of people got lost ... In full: ... including me. I had the map, my friend had the instructions, but still it's pretty hard to know where you are sometimes. The change of route this year makes sense but threw me off. Just two arrows in the last mile (one off the gravel path, one into Aldbanks) would have made a big difference to the number of miles I ran and my mood at the end. On the plus side, excellent cake. In short: Where's the banana? In full: Nice race, well organised, pleasant route, even the weather was good, good preparation for Berkhamsted.
But really - at the end you need a quick bit of nutrition - either a banana or a chewy/cereal bar. Medal is pointless, T-shirt is OK but I have a lot of them, what I need is 25p worth of food! That can't be so hard to arrange can it? I'm sure there was something in 2011. Date of review: February 5, 2013
In short: Very, very, very, very wet In full: as the man on the PA said, and he was not wrong. To think I complained about having to run through one or two ankle deep puddles a couple of years ago. But I'm going keep doing this one at least until we get good weather for it. Date of review: November 4, 2012
In short: Tough In full: I'd been warned about the killer hill ... but knocked out by a whole series of steeps ups and downs after that. And after that ploughed field. Phew. Nice-ish scenery, though at this time of year you're *after* the harvest so rather a lot of stubble, lightly fragranced with sprayed muck ... A map on the web (e.g. a WalkJogRun route) would have been nice. There is one but it's last year's 10m version. Date of review: September 24, 2012
