In short: Shame about Don Valley In full: My local half. Best atmosphere especially at Eccy Road which is really noisy and inspirational. Bit of confusion about toilets amongst some folk but there ought to be plenty really but there is a lack of signage (but were shown on pre-race info). I was ok with water cups but no sports drinks at all is a shame for a big race. However, goody bag seemed improved from when I last did it with a decent running top, sweatband and a nice medal. Quick course too as all the climbing is done really after Division Street. Enjoyed it. Date of review: May 15, 2013

In short: Better than last time I did it. In full: As a resident of the Steel City, I`ve not been the greatest supporter of this race but today was a really good event. Lots of moans about toilets but there are plenty of toilets in the stadium but there was a lack of signage (it was clear in pre-race info though) so runners were queueing for the ones nearest to the reception, delaying the race start. A great shame that the stadium will no longer be the race base. Crowd support was the best I`ve witnessed and Eccy Road is inspiring. Lots of water stations but none with sports drinks but who really cares. Goody bag was better than I`d got previously for this race with tech t-shirt, good medal and I like the wristband plus a healthy snack and sweets. Next year will be a big challenge for the race and Hillsborough is the obvious candidate.

In short: One of the very quickest courses in the region In full: I entered this late but didn`t regret it. Had vague ideas of a PB but that was smashed as I improved by nearly 3 minutes in what was my 14th Half Marathon. Longish walk to the start but fine for a warm up. No loos there though. A billion marshalls were on hand and most were very friendly and reasonably clued-up. Shame the silence for Boston didn`t work but folks couldn`t hear the tannoy. Course was very flat and the wind was tough for the first half but then there was more shelter and there were pockets of support and water stations dotted around the course. Clear and regular distance markings ensured you kept focussed on your time too. Due to a mix up, I was not given a goody bag but did later receive a t-shirt. A really good race that I suspect will sell-out quickly in 2014! Date of review: May 8, 2013

In short: A regular for me In full: I do this every year and did it this time even though it didn`t really fit in with my training.
Road closures were added this year which cost the organisers (Scouts) a fortune but helped the flow of the race. There seemed to be even more people watching than usual creating a tremendous atmosphere despite the chilly weather. Lots of beginners although it is a hilly one. Well done all and see you in 2014! In short: Glad I knew it was not `flat` In full: Last minute decision for me to enter this very local 10k held in a park that I run in every week. Lots of smiley helpers and marshalls oversaw a great turnout for a race on an extremely cold day. Calling it `flat` was certainly misleading and the RW rubric did say a t-shirt plus a medal, but you had to pay extra for the former. Expensive but a good cause and the other goodies were of quality and appreciated. Great location and I`m glad the weather was relatively favourable because, if it was wet, there would have been problems. Well done to the organisers. Date of review: February 24, 2013

In short: Great course for a negative split In full: Really well organised and plenty of quality runners chasing the prizes. It does seem to be slightly uphill heading out and the wind this year didn`t help, but it sure seems quicker for the second 5k. Also it is very flat for that part of the world to be fair. Nice t-shirt again and all the helpers and marshalls did Dewsbury proud. Date of review: February 3, 2013

In short: Views over 5 counties! In full: I thought I could see the Angel of the North at one point!?
The whole (postcard) village seem to contribute to this event. Excellent signage and no problem with the distance from the base to the car parks (a mile). Excellent officials and plenty for the family to do while they wait (park and shops open).
The run was a tough one; don`t think I`ve felt that tired after just 3 miles of running, and then you realise that you`ve another 10 to do! I`d like to see my splits as I suspect they ranged from sub 7 m/m to 10 or 11s! 3 slow, 7 quick and then another slow 3 at the end.
An achievement just to finish this one and I`m just glad that the weather was so kind today! Date of review: May 20, 2012

In short: The start of the Guild series In full: It sounds like a lot of runners missed out on this one as there ended up being a big waiting list so I`m glad I got in.
The weather was kind and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the park was not being from the area.
It was a decent course, point-to-point, in parks and riverbank paths but the start was very congested and lots of runners had put themselves too close to the front. The narrow paths in the first k made overtaking alomost impossible. However, once through that, the race became a lot quicker and thankfully it was chip-timed.
There was a fair amount of support and the marshalls were cheerful plus there was a nice tech t-shirt in the goody bag at the end.
I`ve done lots of races but this was my first 5k. Although it didn`t feel like a `special` event (as you`d hope with the Guild year only occuring every 2 decades), I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the remaining 3 races. Date of review: May 8, 2012

In short: To the windmill `n` back! In full: It is a shame that the base is at the fire station a fair old hike from the start and also that there`s the double lap of the car park to begin the race but, when you`ve got to grips with those facts, it`s a really nice race!
This year the weather was glorious meaning quite a few specatators to add to the numerous marshalls lining the course. A fair mix of runners and a decent shot at a PB if you could get in a group on the second half of the race with a headwind to contend with.
No medal or t-shirt but a bargain fee with a sweet-toothed goody bag and lots to refuel on at the end of the race, unless you`ve `walked off the course`! Date of review: March 18, 2012
