In short: My below email to them should explain In full: Hi,
I’m sure I am not the first to voice dissent about the ridiculousness of having marathon runners standing for over 2 hours (a generous estimate) for their bags. It is unbelievable how experienced organisers like yourselves can reverse a previously successful (apart from 2012 obviously) method where numbered segments could approach the relevant areas, to yesterday where the opposite of how it should be done was employed.
I’m not sure how it went after I finally got my bag but only us Brits would put up with that, in France they’d have just forced their way through and got them themselves.
The whole organisation of road closures, good marshalling/food stations and fantastic support does not matter in the slightest when the last memory is such a hideous cock-up. Hopefully you will re-evaluate your assumed high standing for the poor poor runners yesterday and halve the costs of 2017 for all affected, otherwise you might find a severely depleted start line from a previously growing event. I have taken part in each one since it started again in 2012 with only 4,000 of us, but will not be paying full price after this fiasco. A mere apology on your website just smacks of a misplaced arrogance.
In short: Great atmosphere once again In full: My 2nd year of NYE torture - the weather stayed good and gives a great start for 2014! Will try to train for it next year! Date of review: January 13, 2014
In short: A Massive Improvement In full: I also took part in last year's race, which couldn't be any worse but had a great time yesterday. Would still prefer to be going through the centre down Deansgate at some point, and the price is too steep - should not be more than London! Good PB though and Andy was great on the mic! In short: Didn't use baggage service, so without prejudice: In full: The only thing I'll say about the baggage is why the hell do they insist on everyone using identical bags so they're impossible to spot? Contrary to previous reviews I thought Andy on the mic at the start was great, so too were the supporters, refreshments and goodies (medal, tshirt etc). This along with the massive price of entering made it feel like a large-scale event, however with the amenities in the 'race village' and large sections of a boring course it was more like a club run that should have cost £10-£15.
I think if it had been a glorious day there wouldn't have been a quarter of the complaints, so I would enter again just for the PB potential but not very far in advance! Date of review: April 30, 2012
In short: A great run in perfect conditions with great people! In full: Thanks very much for organising this route and providing water and company all the way round - had a great time! Date of review: November 22, 2010
In short: Similar to the Military 10K but without the obstacles In full: Quite hilly but nowhere near as bad as is being made out on here. People always looking for PB material should realise courses like these improve your chances of a future PB! Date of review: November 18, 2010
