In short: If you enjoy pain this is the one for you. In full: I have previously run the Bewl 15, so I knew what to expect but had forgotten quite how hard this run is. The marshalls at the water stations were all fantastic, but as there were no other marshalls at any other point it was quite a lonely run. The hills are very demanding and the terrain was difficult if you are mainly used to road running. I am a very experienced runner but will only be coming back to Bewl for a family day out. It is a very beautiful part of the country which I shall enjoy in future as a ramble. The medal is worth having and the two elderly supporters at the end with their 'marathon cake' were a very welcome sight at the end of a hard run. A big thank you to them. Date of review: May 7, 2013

In short: This was my 16th half marathon - worst medal yet! In full: Very clubby race. Even a coach bringing runners from the London area. Terrible medal - looked like something out of a small child's cracker. Got charged the 'on the day' price, even though I applied in advance. Quite muddled at the end - cars and people all over the place. The marshals were gesticulating wildly and shouting at the top their voices to guide runners. Flat and fast - the weather was challenging, but didn't deter anybody. Marshals around the route were very good. Date of review: March 11, 2013

2013 Brighton Half Marathon

In short: Two main problems - toilets and water In full: This is the second year that I have run the Brighton half, so I knew what to expect with the route. I really struggled with the lack of water between mile 3 and mile 11. Although there was lucozade this just isn't enough - particularly as the weather was unseasonably warm. The toilets, or lack of them, was appalling. In the end I had to go on the beach in full view of many dog walkers (sorry to them). The queue was huge and there was only 5 mins until the start. The organisers know how many people are coming so why can't they cater for this? Apart from the above, a well organised race with disappointing elements. Date of review: February 20, 2013

2012 Little Pell Hell Mud Run 5

In short: Excellent atmosphere and organisation In full: Having never done a 'mud' run before I was quite worried about what was ahead of me, particularly as it had poured with rain the night before and the rain was still coming down at a steady rate on the morning of the run. I was fully prepared to be last to cross the finish line as I normally stick to tarmac and avoid hills if at all possible. I did find the course tough going (not helped by my wrong choice of footwear) and found that I had to walk/squelch for a fair bit of the way. However, the enthusiasm and welcome from the Wadhurst Runners, linked with the fab goody bag, yummy sausages and marvellous cakes all made it a very good event. I am not sure off-road running is for me, but for those who enjoy getting down and dirty this would be a run which I thoroughly recommend. The previous Sunday I ran in the Run to the Beat half marathon in London and although I preferred the tarmac under foot, my experience in the Little Pell Hell Mud Run was a far better one - and I didn't come last either! In short: 2012 Race - Not worth the entry fee - my local 10 miler was better organised!! In full: Expect a very long wait to get through the starting point. Nothing at all to fuel you at the end which was very disappointing considering the entry price (not even a banana). Cups of water on the route - really??? Make sure your younger supporters have ear plugs in - extremely inappropriate music. Too many men in the toilet queue who were unaware that there were urinals available due to no signage. Think again before you spend your money on this one. Date of review: October 29, 2012
