In short: Enjoyed my run in park In full: Well organised, very friendly and encouraging marshals and a lovely run around Brockwell Park in Herne Hill. The hill (especially on the last 2 laps) was challenging, but it was a welcome relief to know that we got to run back down the other side! And I still managed to get a PB :) This is a excellent value race, £11.50 for a medal and a t-shirt! The sun came out for the last little bit of the race making it feel like Spring and after finishing we went across the street and had lunch at the farmer's market. All in all a very enjoyable morning out, would definitely recommend this to runners of all abilities. Date of review: March 3, 2013
In short: Beautiful day for it In full: This was the second time I have ran this race. The first was in 2010 and we got poured on with rain the entire time, this time it was beautiful sunshine the whole way round which amazing (Funnily enough there were a lot more spectators this time!) 4 laps mostly along the sea front. NIce and flat which helped me get a PB. There were some fast runners at the front but there was a mix of abilities as well and I would have felt comfortable if this had been my first half. Nice medal, the stewards were friendly and a big thank you to the 3 vikings (or spartans?) you made me smile everytime I saw you! Date of review: November 12, 2012
In full: Yes the hill was hard, (I had to walk a couple times) but it was nice to get it out of the way earlier in the race. After we ran back down the hill the rest of the run was pretty much flat.
I enjoyed this race, I have only done 2 half's before and got my new PB on this one so I was pleased. The weather was horrible but there's not too much to be done about. The marshals were friendly (especially as they had to stand out in the wind and the rain) and I had no problem finding my way around the course.
The only 2 constructive criticisms my boyfriend (who also ran the race) and I would have for this race would be 1) a bag drop. We couldn't find any information if there even was one, so we left our stuff (warm jumpers!) in the car. And then when we got to the starting line we saw there was a place to put bags but it was unmanned. And 2) maybe it was just us but we both felt like there could have been an extra water station earlier on in the race. It felt like a very long time to the first one and then again to the second one.
All in all, I enjoyed running it though. And the chocolate bar at the end made it even better!
In short: Enjoyable run despite the weather! In full: This was mine and my boyfriend's second half marathon and despite being completely soaked by the buckets of rain we really enjoyed it. We both did it faster than our previous race, the event was very well organized, everyone was friendly, and the run along the seafront was very pretty. The tea and cakes at the end were also very appreciated! I would definitely recommend this to people who are new to running half's like myself, as the course is virtually flat, it's a bit less daunting. Well done to the marshals, they were all very encouraging, I can't imagine how cold and wet they must have been! Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: This was my first half marathon as well as my first race. It was really enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it, especially to first timers like me! In full: I would definitely recommend this race, especially for first timers like myself. The course was flat, all of the organizers and marshalls were very friendly and encouraging. They were all smiling the whole time and calling you by your name and urging you on. All in all it was a great experience and I will be back again next year. Date of review: August 22, 2010
