In short: Always my favourite marathon every year In full: I have run and marshalled this race for a number of years. Every year it is different. This year there was more tape than any year, easy to follow, even though some had been torn down. The weather was perfect. If I could do only one race per year this was the one that I put my name down for, even when my knee was knackered ( marshalled in the pouring rain still enjoyed it). Happy days !!! great route, excellent pre race email giving me all the information I needed before the run. Thank you Rob, all marshals and all the helpers and volunteers for giving up their spare time and making this a great race. See you all at the midsummer munro. Date of review: October 10, 2016
In short: Great cross country run. In full: This is a gem of a run. Very low key great course, nice straights, can't really get lost, good running ground mixture of soft and gravely ground. I ran in spikes and was okay, lots of people ran in trail shoes the first 2 ran in flats. Real value for money. My 15 year old son was smiling like a Cheshire cat who had just done a bag of cat nip after this event. Thank you see you next month. Date of review: December 14, 2015
In short: Great race In full: I am addicted to this one. Great race and organisation, thanks for putting on the good weather. I love the fry up at the end. See you at the picnic. Date of review: October 12, 2015
In short: Marvellous In full: This is the second time I have done this marathon and I love it. It was one of my favourites last year and still is. The area is superb, I have been coming here for the last 30years and the hilly sand tracks are still hard but bring a smile to my face when I get to the top !! All the marshals were great and the water stops were plentiful. The sign posting was great. I still managed to stray from the track and lost a few minutes, but that was okay. I had a marvellous day, I am very grateful for all the support and will see you again next year. Well done. Date of review: September 15, 2015
In short: Roller coaster ride fun. In full: I too got lost at the first loop, doing the 21km distance, following the person in front. After that my eyes were out on stalks and the signposting was okay. You have to keep your wits about you at all times. More of a trail fun run which was very enjoyable. I ran this with my son and he got a PB for the half marathon distance even though we did the extra 1 K'ish loop. He wants to do it again next year. Great t shirt and medal. Good value run. We will be back next year. Date of review: September 7, 2015
In short: SUPERB DAY, VERY WELCOMING In full: I did the half marathon distance with my son. We had a brilliant day the organisation was great, I found the marshalling really good and the encouragement along the route excellent. Great introductory to trail running for anyone that wants to see what its like. A very good mixture of terrain to cover, the hills good not too difficult and then going into Salisbury excellent. My favourite city outside London. The route markers were good, I did not get lost which is a bonus when you are tired the distance markers did not bother us as we had an idea of what pace we were going at ( we did not have a GPS). We were in the shade a lot of the time which helped, but also the cloud cover was good and the extra water I brought along we did not need as the water stations were excellent. It was not as hot as I had prepared for so we had a bonus. A big thank you to everyone that was involved in organising this great event. A lot of work goes into organising such an event and its great to be able to take part. Thanks to everyone that encouraged us around the course we had a great day. Looking forward to coming back.
In short: Hard, great course In full: Great route very challenging. Marshalls were superb. Very hot wiped me out 2 big hills on the way back. Very good value for money. Thanks Gary great event, yes I will do it again next year!!! Date of review: August 3, 2015
In short: SUPERB !!! In full: Excellent marshals. Great day, great location forgot I was in London. Great park to run in. The weather was perfect, not too hot nice breeze when you needed it. Nice t shirt. Date of review: May 18, 2015
In short: Great location can't wait to do this one in better weather. In full: The location and route of this marathon is along a quieter part of the towpath. The start and finish point is an old English pub which looked after us very well on the day. In fact it was so comfortable that I did not want to go outside into the pouring rain. We had the towpath to ourselves, even the ducks had thrown in the towel and scampered off looking for cover. The route is very good 4 times backwards and forwards along the towpath. Always bumping into fellow runners encouraging each other. Water points are at spot on locations. During better weather there are more people along this stretch, there are also many rowing races, so can get a bit busier but not like Kingston, Richmond and Putney. I would like to do this one in spring, it should be quiet fast with a finish at the pub, excellent organisation and great marshals. Any chance Rik ? Date of review: November 25, 2014
In short: Great event .. In full: Great location very mixed terrain. Up to Leith hill tower you have relatively straightish track on okayish ground. After the tower it turns into a twisting turning up down and all over the place broken up trail, really tested my knees. You have to be alert all the time can't switch off. On a number of occasions I uttered the magic," words never again.." Great support from marshals and other runners gets you round this course. Needless to say I will be back next year.
