In short: Excellent Spring half marathon In full: This is a fast, flat course with only a couple of inclines. After training in the cold for most of the year it was lovely to run on a sunny Spring morning! It's always a friendly race with many using it as prep for their Spring marathon but equally the perfect race for beginners too. Plenty of water stations, although plastic cups are annoying, and a couple of sponge stations. The Waitrose goody bag at the end had a welcome bottle of water, mars bar and crisps, reusable bag and medal. Oranges at the end were a lovely touch too. Will definitely be back and many thanks to the organisers and volunteers for a great morning. Date of review: April 8, 2013
In short: 1st year for this 10k. Great effort In full: This was the 1st staging of the Tonbridge 10k and was a very friendly and well organised race with the potential to be really great in years to come. Well done to all the organisers and volunteers. The race HQ was well organised and had tea and biscuits too for a small donation. Very welcome at the end!
It was only a small race so yes there wasn't really a proper marked out start line but I'm sure as the race gets bigger then more funds will be available to address this. The course itself was well marked out with marshals at the key junctions. The route itself is mainly on quiet country lanes with just a couple of slight inclines and a slightly steeper one at 7.5km but nothing to be concerned with. The final 2km is flat with the last 400m pretty much downhill so definitely PB potential.
Well done to the organisers as the route is fantastic and hopefully there will be a bigger field next year as this race deserves support. Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: Great organisation and a fantastic race In full: This is a perfect prep race for a Spring marathon. The course is great with the first 3 miles on the track then on to the country roads. As it's a 2 lap course it's ideal to practice those negative splits!! The hills weren't too challenging and plenty of downhill as well as up. The gel and water stations were great and the volunteers very friendly. The marshals were fantastic and very encouraging. Thank you to all those involved.
It was lovely to be greeted by the race director at the end and the chocolate bars were very welcome! Love the shiny medal.
This race is definitely worth considering as part of a Spring marathon training plan as it's given me the confidence to know I can achieve my marathon target time now.
In short: Excellent course and well organised In full: We all received an email a few days before the race to inform us of the alternative parking arrangements. This is the first time I have done this race and I actually think the parking should stay like this every year as it was only a 10 minute walk to race HQ. Given the comments about people driving off the field before the last competitor had finished in previous years I think it would be safer too.
The race was well organised and although there were long queues to collect timing chips it was moving well. The race director did inform us the start would be delayed by a few minutes and politely asked runners to make their way to the start but many were just standing around chatting so the organisers can't be held responsible for that!
The hill to the start is worth a slow jog up to get warmed up. The first 2k was slow but I'll know for next time to start nearer the front! The course is fast and the hill @ 7k is fine, just do lots of hill sessions and you'll fly up it! It's then all downhill.
The medal was nice and the jaffa cakes were welcome at the end. The only negative comment I can give is directed at the mature female runner at just past the 4k mark who thought it was acceptable to throw her used juice bottle in someone's beautiful garden.
Great race and well done! Date of review: February 4, 2013
