In short: 10/10 :-) In full: Excellent race, as indeed it has been for the last 3 years. Slick on-the-day entries. Ground was drier this year than last, which made for a much smoother run through the woods. Some testing parts but also some very pretty surroundings. Great downhill finish and fab crowd support. Thanks Danesfield & Purple Patch. Date of review: April 21, 2015
In short: Very pretty route. Great t-shirt and medal! In full: Shame about the wind on the day I ran it! A few little hills felt like mountains on the second lap! Great course on little roads through pretty villages, with the last mile next to the canal, which was lovely. 26 mile-markers agreed exactly with the distance on my Garmin ...then the last little bit I measured as .48 of a mile! Gave me a good sprint to the finish gantry though - nice to know that you're nearly there when you can hear the commentary and see the impressive Sixways Stadium looming. Great encouragement from the marshals and the crew at the finish. Loads of parking, and good facilities at the venue. Very pleased that I entered this one. Date of review: April 13, 2015
In full: Fab race, great marshalling, excellent support, lovely scenery. Thanks for the sunshine, Burnham Joggers! Only downside was that the medal was exactly the same as last year's. Date of review: April 13, 2015
In short: Brilliant work as always from the ME10 team In full: Excellent course (though the slight slope at 8m felt like a hill by that stage!); great marshalling (loads of 'em and very enthusiastic); fab organisation - runs like clockwork; and they even arranged for decent weather, in a marked change to last week's! My 10th time at Maidenhead this year ... looking forward to the 11th. Date of review: April 3, 2015
In full: One small gripe: once you send marshals round telling runners that the 09.00 start has been delayed by 5mins, don't then set off the hooter at 09.02!!! Grr! Other than that, excellent organisation as always; plentiful and cheery marshals, including the fab bouncy lady in her usual spot just after the 4-mile marker; excellent tech t-shirt and a medal. This race lived up to my expectations from the previous 5 times I've run it :-) Date of review: March 9, 2015
In full: Fab marshals, excellent t-shirt and socks, some nice downhills to counter the gentle (if plentiful!) ups, parking at race HQ, free hot drinks afterwards, and perfect weather compared to 24hrs before! What more could you ask for? Good work Striders and thank you. Date of review: January 19, 2015
In full: My only concern was the queue for number collection, which was snaking out the door when I joined it - if the weather had been harsher there would have been some cold bedraggled runners before the race started! (Or maybe the queue would have found some room for itself indoors if this had been the case). Apparently there was a greater number of entrants than in previous years, which contributed to this, so at least it means that the race is successful!
With reference to a review from 2012, I was also comparing the course to others I've run recently ...I'd say it's not as tough as Marlow, but on a par with Burnham Beeches. I noticed the downhills as much as the ups, including a lovely long descent in the middle.
Marshals and runners alike were very friendly. Directions to the race venue were clear, as were the arrows on the course.
The medal wasn't the fanciest, but the soup and roll at the finish were a nice touch, and very welcome on a chilly day.
Oh, another small disappointment is that the results give only gun time, not chip time. I can't honestly recall what was promised, but obviously hoped that I'd get a chip time that was slightly faster than what my watch said.
These are minor gripes only, though! This was a lovely race and I am glad I did it! Date of review: December 1, 2014
In full: Very well-organised and very friendly race. Race director was very involved in the smooth running - credit to him. Marshals were all incredibly encouraging and there was a high marshal-to-runner ratio! Just as well as there were some slippery parts of the course that we were warned about (that's the only reason to mark it down a bit under "beginner-friendliness", as newer/occasional runners might find some of the climbs tough going). You had to watch where your footing, but there were some stretches later on where you could pick up some speed on firmer terrain. Excellent spread afterwards back at race HQ at the cost of donations to the chosen charity. Good range of age category prizes. Results were on the website by the end of race day itself. In short: Beautiful morning for a very scenic race In full: Slick organisation. Excellent commentary at both the start and finish areas! Fantastic marshals: at race HQ, on the course, at the water stations, and keeping things moving at the finish. Friendly runners. Quality medal. Well-organised baggage collection. Fast results service. 10/10 :-) Date of review: November 11, 2014
