Hiya folks! Have chosen this as my return to marathon distance running in 2017. I've had 4 years off the distance given pretty major spinal surgery in 2014 but feel the time is now right to regain my previous fitness! This is going to be marathon number 40 for me and I can see no better way of celebrating the milestone, this event looks epic!!
Anybody else booked in for 2017 or maybe able to offer some advice on footwear and other kit? The YouTube videos of the run in 2016 show a real variety of stuff on show, and also pretty dismal foggy weather for july?!
Really excited to be back, would be great to hear from others ready to take on the challenge in 2017 too!
I've been suffering with this too... Really wheezy on just simple runs but then spinning classes indoors I go like the clappers with no issues!
I'm putting it down to the pollen too, although I sound like a 40 a day smoker after 500 yards on the roads!
Nodster, yeah I haven't had any alcohol since early February.. And to be fair it's not really bothered me?
Diet can really play a big part in how you cope with things, after research I started taking a HPTC supplement each night before bed, it helps boost your bodies serotonin levels
I think weight is a pretty big problem on AD's, an my personal experience has been yes they were beneficial to me at the time, but the addition of a couple of stone does very little for your self esteem. In terms of the AD's and training, my experience was that coming off them hampered my running more than starting on them. I was desperate to get off the medication in the end, and I'm confident that I've broken the back out of the withdrawals now.
Medication certainly helped me, and looking back rally steadied my mood when I was at my lowest Point. The last 3 months though I've been looking at my diet, sleep, alcohol Intake, and the much bigger picture around depression. I think hey are all interlinked to a degree.
