In short: hot and hilly
In full: what a great event really well organised. i was told about the course and what it was like so times didnt matter between 8 and 10 certainly was tough and i'm afraid i walked a fair bit of those 2 miles but just before the hallelujah sign (brilliant) i started to run again well supported around the course and great at the finish and have to mention the food spoilt for choice

In short: its a funny old world
In full: 1st time i too part in this i did not know what to expect as it was my 1st 50 miler and ran 8.53 last year i was better prepared but had a stinker and ran 9.28. this year had one long run and that was Edinburgh to North Berwick and that was back in May and 2 half marathons as well. this year i would have been happy just to finish with not much training being done. towards the end of the week my throat started to get a bit sore or maybe it was just nerves so if i hadnt pre entered i dont think i would have ran but i'm glad i did ran 9hrs exactly pleased that i was 28 mins quicker than last year but a bit miffed that i missed a possible pb which was on at 40 miles but from then on it was uphill and into the wind.

In full: last week i ran the E 2 NB (20MILES) and it was warm and again today it was hot and had to work hard all the way round mind you i think i was more exhausted listening to the provosts speech before the start. i try and do this one every year as i am from the area and it was the first half i had ever ran and its the one i have ran the most (12th time)

In short: got to do it again
In full: i thought last year was a one off with the weather being perfect but again it we got the right conditions although when we got on the coach to go up to the start the heavens opened but by the time we got to the start it had cleared away. out of the 22 marathons that i have done this has to be my favourite. all in all a great weekend the journey up, the marathon itself where everthing went to plan was going for under 3.30 ran 3.27 and a few drinks after it. great stuff

In short: back to square one
In full: last year was the first time i had ran this so i knew what to expect and i was better prepared this year but even the best laid plans can go out the window. a combination of an injury picked up at the edinburgh marathon, the sun, having to jump out the way of a landrover and in doing so hurt my ankle in the process making the last 15 miles seem an eternity but the good things were the food at 31 miles, water and a mars bar at 40 miles it gave me a boost well for 10 minutes at least and finishing

In short: another rating for 2008
In full: right i have had time to think. a few things, why not move the expo to a more suitable venue i.e. meadowbank or the commonwealth pool and the route is that the only one available, like instead when you get past musselburgh race course could you not do a loop not an out and back. cant comment on the expo my picked my number up but judging by some of the reports it wasnt that good but to end on a positive note great medal
