In short: A good race through country lanes
In full: The event is low key but well organised for a small event. You are never going to get big crowds on country lanes. The mile markers were suspect but I could take a 4:30 mile after 5 "miles" of a half - the 12:00 for the previous "mile" was demoralising. The trick was to look for the paint on the road, the distances appeared more reliable. Well done to Retford for a friendly race.

In short: Thank you to the marshalls
In full: Because most of the runnerswould have gone for a training run in the weather anyway a special thanks to all of the marshalls who gave up their time and were all extremely cheerful despite having to stand around in the cold and the rain. Well done to Nidd Valley for orgainising a great race. Still my favourite race and yet again a goody bag beyond compare...................yeah and that hill is still there just after four miles. If I race anywhere next year it will be here.

In short: Its a good job the sun shone
In full: and that was obviously something not under the control of the event organisers. Like an earlier contributor I returned to my home town for this event. I hope the organisers work on it, the course was good, but everything else was shambolic:
No "event parking" signs on arrival - I followed the queue and hoped they weren't Sunday shoppers
40 minute delay to the the start would have been unacceptable if the weather had not been so good
Finish funnel was inefficient
The goody(?) bag was a waste of the plastic used to produce it, by far the worst I have ever received - but the medal was decent
No signs to get you back to the car park, but that wasn't a problem because the time you wasted trying to get back you would have wasted sat in your car cos the car parks were still closed. Again in colder or wetter conditions, which might occur in October the lack of directions back to the car park would have caused stiffness and miserableness.
Lots for the organisers to work on, but I hope they persevere and get the race back next year with teething problems ironed out.

In short: A great run in the country
In full: Whilst I accept the earlier point re bottles vs cups I don't think is relevant for a 10k race.

In short: Still my favourite race
In full: Many thanks to Nidd Valley for another excellent race. Helpful marshalls, happy drinks table crews (good to see the girls were still at mile 7+)and the best value for money goodie bag and T shirt you'll ever find. It's probably not PB potential, but sometimes you have to run just to run

In short: Excellent race, well organised
In full: A well organised race on a flat rural course, only problems were the usual runners moans, the wind was against you most of the way, and when it wasn't you started going up hill! I'm sure the race director would say that's how it should be. Looking forward to next year

In short: A really good race, I'm sure that by now the organisers are aware of the problems at the start
In full: There were problems at the start, but the organisers weren't helped by the weather cos we all wanted to turn up at the last minute. I understand that this was the first time the race started from the lane. Let's hope that the organisers aren't put off, but look to improve the position next year. A good race on a potentially fast course. A big thank you to the marshalls and drinks station people for standing out in the rain. I'm sure they felt wetter than we did.

In short: The course is as dull as dishwater, but it does have PB potential
In full: Well organised event, but the only part of the course with any interest has now gone. A straight out and back along Kirkstall Road is not inspiring. With 2K to go you are left hoping for a "shout" at the fire station to break up the monotony. It won't be one of the first races to look for next year, but still might do it.

In short: Excellent race, still one of the best
In full: This race had everything from good organisation to glorious weather to scenic course, hills, friendly marshalls and drink station workers, and a goody bag and T-shirt that must have exceeded the entrance fee. Can someone explain to me how it doesn't score 100% for value everytime?
