In short: A no-frills 10K in a glorious setting In full: This was tough, most of it off-road along grassy uneven ground with a couple of decent climbs as well. But not a x-country mudfest. A basic 10K with a small field - turn up, pay yer money and go for a run. Friendly marshals and efficiently organised all round. A lovely setting, being a stately pile in a deer park. Within a short bike ride of the station. A nice way to spend a Sunday morning. Date of review: August 28, 2016
In short: Excellent 10th edition of the race In full: Not much to add to my review of last year's effort (see below, not very far). Top event with organisation and facilities to match. And results online by teatime. Not one for a pb attempt because of some pinch points and narrow stretches of footpath. But a great day out nonetheless and one of my favourites. In short: A nice day out In full: I enjoyed this. It's a nice low-key event, from a car park in a Bracknell office park. A couple of laps round a local park, mostly on firm packed trails but a little grass and some tarmac too. Chip timing with results up by evening, a tea and cake stall, supervised baggage stow - all good stuff. The course while flattish has some twists and turns and the first and last 100 yards are a zigzag so a quick course but maybe not a pb one. I'll be back. Date of review: June 27, 2016
In short: Great event In full: I loved this. The route is pretty much flat but some twists and turns and uneven surfaces mean not quite a pb course. A glorious stately home venue, secure baggage stow, easy access, catering, chip timing and results up by early afternoon, loads of marshals, efficient organisers. Just a good vibe throughout. Recommended. Date of review: June 11, 2016
In short: A fine race and tougher than you expect In full: Town centre start, good race HQ with room to change and fast baggage stow, plenty of public loos in town.
The course is undulating including several km along stony and grassy tracks so not one for a pb but interesting and varied. It's also long by a couple of hundred metres, I reckon, from several outings here (I know Garmins should be viewed with caution but this route is consistently 6.3 miles or longer). Not going to deduct points for that, but just saying.
You get your bling at the end from the mayor in his chain of office, this is the only race I've seen that happen!
Thankyou to Newbury AC for quickly sorting out a glitch with my race entry - a sign of good organisers.
All in all, a great race. Date of review: May 29, 2016
In short: Super little race In full: A basic no-frills 10K: turn up and run and get your medal! Faultless organisation as always. Great venue with loads of room, catering for runners and support crews, and easy to get to. Fast baggage, plenty of marshals. The course is excellent; all along dirt tracks apart from the first and final km and plenty of shade among trees in fragrant blossom. Not a pb course because of some leg-sapping ups and downs but great fun. All in all an enjoyable day out. Date of review: May 15, 2016
In short: Another excellent event In full: Top marks to the organisers for laying on the extra water stations this year, on a stinking hot day. Excellent race as always; the course is not the most inspiring (it is in Bracknell) but it's pleasant and varied enough. Really good venue, loads of marshals, great medal and generous goody bag. A favourite event! Date of review: May 8, 2016
In short: Nice event but no medal, despite promises In full: OK, so this is a nice village-green race that always goes smoothly. Reading Roadrunners are old hands at this one and do other local events as well. The baggage stow was a bit chaotic though.
But come on guys, if you advertise a medal for finishers under 90 minutes then that is what we should get. A towel with a promotional logo doesn't cut it. A similar thing happened a couple of years ago, when the medal was also promised but we got (if I recall) a coffee cup. It's not the end of the world but it is a bit slapdash and disappointing. In short: Great event In full: The organisers have got this one well sorted. Start time is that little bit later at 1030 so the train is an option. Loads of marshalls and water stations (although it was cold today). Very efficient and fast baggage tent by the girl guides. The course loops around the town so while the scenery for the runners is a bit uninspiring it is good for supporters and family who want to spectate. No real hills but undulating in places. A good medal plus a kit bag and buff (no tech shirt, thankfully, I've got so many I don't know where to put them all). Only gripe was that I could only see one hot drinks stall at the finish, with a long queue. I was gasping for a brew but it had to wait till I got to the station. But otherwise, a top race.
