In short: Cold day but slick organisation made it a good experience! In full: Not done this race before but would definitely do it again (if they get themselves more toilets, as one plus a urinal for all the men is a bit daft)! Slick organisation and friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging marshals made it a good race for me. Well done to the host club! Date of review: December 18, 2011
In short: A great day out at the seaside - pity about the Tshirt and the 'goody bag'! In full: Yes, I got a flipping great PB for the race but the price was close to extortionate! What did that cost actually give us seeing as even London is around £30. I loved the copious water and lucozade stations; the starting pens; the toilets (although some of the queue jumpers got annoying); the crowds handing out jelly sweets; the weather (yes, it was a bit windy but I wasn't that sweaty when I'd done); the scenic course; the friendliness of the other competitors; the shuttle buses afterwards and the chunky medal is great! I didn't like the Tshirt (horrid colour and no date of the marathon); the hemmed-in feeling of the narrow queue to get to the starting pens; the 'goody bag'?!!! What?! A banana and a Lucozade sport drink? Maybe I should have brought the potatoes to nibble enroute! The expo was OK but where were the freebies?
I'd do this again but please, bring the cost down a bit for us marathoners. The relay teams could pay more, maybe?
PS. The lass in the blue lycra leotard at the start (waving the flag) made my day - thabks for putting her there! Date of review: May 27, 2008
In short: A bit pricey and not exactly got much PB potential! In full: It was great weather today and the route was fairly OK - not done this newer route. Where were mile markers? Seemed to have missed 1 mile, 5-8 miles then the 11th mile so couldn't really take my splits well enough. Good amount of marshalls and drinks stations and good support from several parties along the route. If the race was less money, I'd do it again as £18 is a bit steep (although I know why it cost that much)! Well done to the organisers. Date of review: April 27, 2008
In short: Great day and the rain stopped for the race! In full: Not run as far since 2002 and not doen this race since 2001, so the course change was great for me. Superb marshalling and very impressed to see all of the mile markers, although I suspect that some of them were a bit out in places. Really impressed today, well done Holmfirth Harriers! In short: Just in town to visit brother and planned to have a go at it. Enjoyed myself! In full: Visiting my brother for the weekend, I'd arrmaged to do the race with him. His first race and he enjoyed it too, especially when they 'called out his number at the end'! I liked the hills as they added a bit of extra challenge to the race and the nice neighbourhoods that we ran through were a treat too! Interesting coloured T-shirt but the novelty of the teabags got my brother's vote! Date of review: July 29, 2007
In short: Not to be done on a hot day! In full: The weather was blimmin' hot so if you set off too fast, you will definitely suffer later in the race, such as thet horrendous hill that just keeps on going in the second half of the race! The long downhill is great but just as you think there are no more hills left to climb, you go into the housing estate and do some more! The finish was a bit difficult onto the showground but a good effort from the friendly marshals on the day! Date of review: June 17, 2006
In short: Prices were a bit excessive this year, I'm sure I could get chips for cheaper on the high street! In full: I enjoyed this today despite not beating my 10k PB. A PB for the course (1min07 faster) but as I've said earlier, the price was a bit steep and has put several people off that I know. Still, good conditions and nice to see Nell McAndrew starting us off, if it's cheaper next year, I might come back for the 5th year! Date of review: February 5, 2006
