In short: A well organised, scenic, atmospheric half marathon
In full: This was my first time entering the Basingstoke half marathon having been a spectator the year before and feeling I should be running!
The entry procedure was simple and on arrival at the start/ finish area it was easy to find the chip collection point and baggage drop. Friendly helpers made this easy and efficient. Also got a good quality technical t-shirt, which I noticed quite a few runners wore during the race.
The start area was conveniently located and allowed everyone to get moving fairly quickly following the gun. I started around the mid pack, but would have found it difficult to get towards the front if I was late getting to the starting area.
The race was brilliant, with well organised marshals, scenic route (shame about the fog), and plentiful water stops along the traffic free route. A few big hills to contend with but great atmosphere at the village’s en route really helped to spur me on.
The finish area was well organised with volunteers taking off your chip and easy collection of medal and some much needed good quality snacks. Unfortunately I didn’t get a foil blanket (was unlucky at my timing coming through as they were trying to locate more blankets) but baggage collection was quick and easy to get my warm clothes on.
Overall I would definitely recommend this race and will be taking part next year. Thanks to the organisers, marshals, helpers and spectators for making this a great event.
NB-I’m a casual runner and achieved my target time of 1.57
