In short: My first marathon so a wonderful personal experience. Thank you to all the volunteers and supporters. Organisers, some basic errors. In full: Areas for improvement as witnessed by a back-of-the-pack runner: * Many more toilets at start needed(see Nottingham or Reading halfs) * Start organisation - relay runners obstructed start for 4:30+ marathoners * Water stations - needed earlier than mile 4 in hot weather (learning from GNR ?) * Lucozade - first station ran out ! This was a dangerous error. * Weaving through people at beachfront at 20-22 miles was not fun * Pricing not competitive, T-shirt should be wicking at that price point * Typos in magazine, web site limited, merchandize limited * An Englishman I met wearing a George Cross shirt was upset by abuse.....just remember the economic realities of today.
Overall a way to go to reach the professional organizational standards seen at the major half marathons, but this event is worthy of investment if better management is put in place.
Thank you Edinburgh and Scotland. I enjoyed my visit...please take my comments as a desire for your Marathon to continue and to improve :-) Date of review: June 13, 2006
In short: Great scenary and most aspects of organisation up to usual good Bedford standard In full: Just a few niggles disappointed: start a shambles (no start line, no hooter/gun), some unsympathetic traffic/busy roads, chaotic at finish. Loos, water stations and marshalling good (suggest Marshall points coded in different colour scheme from miles markers).
In short: Overall good: Marshalls v.positive, plenty of water stations, loos& baggage store bottlenecks, later finishers blocked by returning crowd In full: Overall enjoyed the race. Thank you. Sort out some of the basics and could be a bigger event. Was it short...Polar distance said 12.4 miles ? Date of review: July 26, 2005
In short: Enjoyable small village race.Thank you. In full: Some tips you might like to consider: 1)Km markers are needed for a 10k race, not mile markers 2) Directions entering the playing field need to be clear, and crowd should not obstruct runners 3)Finish line needs to be clearly signposted 4) water station at finish was unmanned and had run out for us slower runners (this is a serious problem) Date of review: May 30, 2005
In short: Great enjoyed it, crowds and marshalls good, water at finish blocked by crowds though, 10.5 km ? In full: Could be great race if sorted water blocked by crowds at finish line (Brains of Oxford pls sort....happened last year as well). Otherwise super race. Polar distance said it was 10.5km though. Thanks Date of review: May 15, 2005
