In short: Great atmosphere despite chaotic organisation In full: The sun shone, the crowds were great, it's a lovely course and I got a pb all of which makes me forgive the terrible organisation. My fellow runners have summarised all the failures comprehensively so I won't repeat it all again.
What I really don't understand is why things are getting worse? Normally the organisation improves every year so that at London (for example) it's now virtually faultless. So why are Brighton's organisers going backwards? I love the atmosphere of this race so I may run again next year..... but unless things start improving fast 2017 will be the last time. In short: Back to its best In full: This year the race has returned to its old two-lap course with a finish on the track at the Riddlins. The organisation was excellent and the marshall plentiful and friendly as always. The weather was sunny and perfect for a run.... I'll be back next year. Date of review: November 2, 2015
In short: Not what it used to be In full: The SHM used to be a brilliantly well-organised race on a slightly dull course - but good enough that I'd run 5 before this one.
But this year the course has changed to be more dull (more cycle paths, less park) and more undulating. It also lacks the really good stadium finish. The organisation too has gone from smooth to a bit chaotic. Only the great marshals are unchanged from last year. Some of this will be down to moving the race location and should improve next year. But unless the course changes I'm not sure I'm going to be back to find out. Date of review: November 7, 2014
In short: Hope this is the first of many In full: Good debut from the the East-End newcomer. Despite a scorching June day the hipsters of Hackney turned out to run and cheer in large numbers. The village was well organised both before and after the race and the course was well marshalled. Liked the water pouches, less keen on the randomly-placed mile markers, but overall had a good race with a friendly bunch. See you next year. Date of review: June 23, 2014
In short: Better every year In full: Stevenage has become a fixture on my racing calendar beacause of the good flattish course, the friendly atmosphere, great marshalls and amazing organisation. This year we even managed some sunshine to race in rather than the usual rain. A very good way to end the season - thank you. Date of review: November 4, 2013
In short: Cool race on a hot, hot day In full: Almost a perfect local 10k race: scenic surroundings, good organisation, a flat well-marshalled course and a lovely day. Yes the temperature was 23C at the start but I guess that's what you risk in July. Was the course a little short or was that just my Garmin being thrown out by the twists and turns? Definitely back next year - thanks Date of review: July 15, 2013
In short: I'll be back In full: Winter relented just in time to give us a near perfect day to race; well maybe a little windy. The course is good to run (few hills) and good for spectators (with a bit of organisation you could see your friends 3 or 4 times on the way round). The spectators and marshalls were great and seemed to be enjoying themselves almost as much as the runners. Only major gripe is the need to pick up your number the day before - how about the option to put it in the post? But a great day and 9 mins off my pb in 3:46 so I'll be back next year. In short: The weather couldn't quite spoil our fun In full: At first sight it all looked a bit haphazard. The start is in the middle of MK, you park alongside everyone going to Waitrose and there isn't anywhere special to change or gather for the start. But on closer inspection all the essentials are very well organised. Many marshalls braved the atrocious weather to manage the course, there were no queues for the loos, drinks stations were well run, the course took in the most scenic bits of Milton Keynes (!) and you were out of car park and back on the road in 30 seconds. The only thing I would improve is the start. It took me 5 mins to cross the line (from the back of the queue) and then I had to do a lot of overtaking on some narrow paths. Maybe organise the start by expected finishing time next year?
Thanks to all the marshalls who braved the rain and snow. Date of review: March 5, 2012
In short: Lovely spring day for a race In full: The snow had caused a two-week delay for this race which was irritating at the time but with the sun shining on Finny P the delay seemed like a blessing on Saturday morning. The result was a smaller field than usual which suited the park's narrow paths. Organisation was good apart from the unsupervised bagage tent. And they'd lengthened the course this year so that it really is 10k! Also liked the text with my race time taht arrived 2 hours post finish. A good start to the season Date of review: February 27, 2012
