In full: This was the first time I'd run this race and can't believe what I've been missing. A challenging, energy sapping run but I absolutely loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Why this isn't in the RW top 10 I don't know. Date of review: September 19, 2011

In short: If you can't read a map or find a NEJ to run with it could be a very long day! In full: Simon Bonell and I travelled to sunny Eltham to take part in the first running of the Green Chain Marathon. Simon talked me into it. He said it'd be fun. Fun! How can a marathon be fun? Well, I'm pleased to tell you he was right. 27 miles of south east London armed only with a map and 6 or 7 pages of instructions we were pointed in the right direction and told to follow the green chain signs. They are marked every 50 metres or so. Luckily I ran in a group that had 3 New Eltham joggers in it and they knew roughly where they were going otherwise I would have been much much slower. About 20 miles off road, we passed sights such as Lesnes abbey ruins and Eltham Palace. There was also a 3 mile stretch along the Thames. A word of warning though. This is not a race for novice marathoners. It's surprisingly hilly in places and there is a risk of getting lost. If you go wrong you could easily run 30+ miles on this one( just ask Claire G) All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable day out and Simon and I intend to do it all again next year. A big thank you to New Eltham Joggers. Date of review: October 1, 2008
