In short: Well organised and for a good cause
In full: This was more memorable, for me, for the build up. My luggage never got through T5 at Heathrow so I had to borrow kit (and shoes). Despite that, and the wind and rain, it went reasonably well. Of course, none of that was anything to do with the organisers/ helpers who were great. Although this was not my first ultra I could see this being a good intro for someone wanting to move beyond the marathon. Well done Pam.

In short: Nice course, nice memento, nice people
In full: I could tell this was a new marathon as there was a mass attendance from the 100 marathon club! Good event, quite well organised but could have been smoother. Pity the marathon and 50k weren't exactly the same at the start. The water stations were not really sufficient for the glorious spring weather (in January!) but the conditions couldn't have been predicted.

In short: A PB course though a little tougher than it looks
In full: Nice race, shame about the thunderstorm beforehand - soaked to the skin on the warm-up and covered in mud from the car park (aka muddy field. I blame the organisers (well, they get blamed for everything else). Nice circuit though. Mostly flat but with a few little uphills to make you work hard, but not too hard. The only downside was the finish that twisted and turned into the village hall car park - it's a pity it couldn't be on the main road which would give a nice straight run in.

In short: Glorious scenery, shame about the weather
In full: This is a fantastic race. The rain slackened a bit before the start but the wind was very strong which made the race a real struggle. Nearly blown off the dam at the end! Would like to give it a go under better conditions.

In short: A good gathering of local runners - nice alternative to a fast training run
In full: Multi-terrain run, not a brilliant course but OK. Nice little series.

In short: Gloriously scenic off-road marathon
In full: A fantastic event over the classic marathon distance of, er 27.5 miles (according to my Garmin). Oh well, these sort of quirky events are not supposed to be precise.I would have been more upset if it had been short. OK, let's get the negative out the way - too much road for an event advertised as "off-road" and that's it really apart from one minor niggle - this is the only marathon in which I've ever finished first and there were no prizes, not even a little shield with "winner" engraved on it -sob. Having said that, I knew this before I entered - it's not a race it's a great day out in the countryside. There are magnificent views, great sites (such as Longford Castle), fantastic woodland, including some enormous yew trees, and just great English countryside. I went armed with an OS map as suggested but hardly needed it as the course was very well way-marked (the blue string through the wood was novel). There were a few hills but they were long and gentle, rather than short and steep, which made for some good downhill running. Loved it - highly recommended. There are also events over 5km, 10km, 20km, 30km and 40km (although I don't know why anyone would do an event just 2km short of the marathon) - so something for all the family. Marvellous.

In short: Challenging but fun team race - a Friday night well-spent
In full: Half on road, half off. The off section is on trails through the woods and up-and-down hills. A magnificent race and something a bit different with the team element. One killer climb. Great race.

In short: well organised, good support each lap

In short: Fast course, big field, scenic town and country
In full: Would have rated "pure speed" but I think the course is long. The finish has been altered without moving the start or changing the course.
