In short: It really hurts ...
In full: Very challenging but great fun and worth every bit of pain. Take the time to look around you and remember why you go running. Makes an excellent training run for autumn marathons too.
Very friendly and plenty of marshals

In short: What hurts more - hills or nettles ?
In full: Splendid race. Really is "multi terrain". Some very taxing hills especially one made of sand. You need to leave any pb hopes at home and race against the other competitors instead. Could do with someone trimming the nettles as some of the pathways were very tight and nettles hurt even when racing.

A summer Saturday evening is a great time for a race too.

In short: Interesting range of scenery and areas
In full: Relatively big field so I imagine it gets congested further back on tight paths in first 5k. Towards the front it was fine. Interesting course with most inclines in the first 5k. Part of Warwickshire Road Race League so quite a lot of club vests present although this seemed perfectly fine for fun runners and first timers too

In short: Hard work but fun
In full: Nice run - makes a difference from pounding the roads. I found the course hard though. Mile and a half straight down hill followed by the next 4 miles or so back up according to my Garmin. Would like to try it again knowing what was in-store.

In full: Good testing course makes excellent prep for spring marathon. Organisation is super slick with plenty of water stops, gels and sweets. Excellent hoody and goody bag. Fab race

In full: I was looking for a fast, flat marathon which, baring the weather, this should be. Drinks stations were plentiful and everything ran smoothly until the end. Being around the 3 hour mark I was spared subsequent problems at the finish. Many people have reported problems for friends and spectators but this did not affect me either as I was on my own so I was lucky.

The fact that it goes out of the city for most of the run makes it a potentially fast run but will spoil it for some who are looking for the big city feel and some sightseeing.

If it is always windy in Edinburgh then changing the course to give some shelter would be good. I have never ran into anything like that before for the last 8 miles.

In short: Hard but worth it. Excellent marathon warm up
In full: Lovely race in lovely countryside. Undulating does not do it justice. Great support from the marshals but don't expect crowds or even huge numbers in the race. Field was generally strung out which makes this as much a mental test as a physical one.

One of the best race T-shirts I've seen and lovely cakes and refreshment.

In full: Very tough course and conditions this year did not help. Still, it's all very doable even for road runners especially if marathon training. No mile markers so that can play havoke mentally when you really want to stop.

Shame to focus on being a training run for those preparing for a marathon but given the time of year it's always going to attract a lot with that in mind and for those I would recommend it. Respect to those you raced it in it's own right - you're tough as boots

In short: flat, fast, friendly
In full: Race wise this was efficiently organised with more smiling marshals than I've seen in a long while. Course is interesting and mixes up main roads, parks and city centre running. There is only one incline of note which is much of the last mile.

Organisation outside of the race is not great though. Website was quite poor and not really helpful. People complained about lack of toilets but there were plenty in the university buildings where registration was. At least baggage drop off was much better this year.

I really don't care too much about goody bags and the like - I was there to do a race. Cost seemed to be in line with most city centre races so I have no complaints.

Overall I had a great day!
