In short: As good as I'd hoped for In full: Being a local runner I'd somehow missed this run up to now. However, I was determined to do it this year such that even the never ending winter cold did not stop me...and so glad it didn't. The scenery is not great but the actual route has enough to keep you interested. The Name, rather than number, on your chest is a great touch and really helps with the encouragement...the marshalls do not need much to make them provide comforting words. The t shirt was good for winter running and organisation overall superb. Well done Stockport. Date of review: December 10, 2012

In short: Good trail race In full: Enjoyed this. Normally a road runner and Lakeland walker so this was a great combination. Great organization and well marshalled. I loved the trails, needed to keep your concentration to ensure sound footing and take deep breaths to get up the hills. The first half of the course got most of the uphill out of the way which helped. Overall an enjoyable run. Date of review: July 1, 2012

In short: Great crowd shame about the organisers In full: Good: course was good, flat and quick. Great support from crowd and marshalls. Good drinks stations. Manchester deserves a great race. Bad: I am only going to call out two things, bag drop - nuff said by others and the £5 to post out numbers on top of entrance fee, what a rip off!

2011 Oulton Park Autumn Duathlon

In short: OK But not great In full: Oulton park is a nice enough venue for an event like this, traffic and pot hole free and so I looked forward to my maiden duathlon. I arrived early and there were already some queues to register so it was not a surprise the start time was delayed by around 20 minutes. Once underway the event ran smoothly, the pre-briefing made the do's and don'ts clear and the course was well laid out. The on course marshalls were not the most supportive I have ever run in front of, in fact very quiet. At £40 it's not a cheap event, the t shirt was ok but probably cost a tenner, I suspect the bulk of the cost went to the cost of securing the venue. Overall I'm glad I got my first event under my belt and that was enough keep me happy, I would look for more inspiring events for my next one. Date of review: October 7, 2011

In short: A great Sunday morning 10k and for a good cause In full: Great pre-race organisation with parking made easy and a quick number and chip collecion point. The warm up was typical English summer....deluging and people huddling under gazebos to keep dry. Come the off, the rain cleared and the weather was perfect for running. A nice mix of terrain for the run and a couple of kms of 'singletrack' to make a PB difficult, but to make you slowdown and keep some energy in the tank. One small but very sharp hill at about 6kms was a surprise but a good challenge. Friendly marshalls and crowds kept your spirits up. I'll be back for this one. Date of review: September 11, 2011

In short: 1st Marathon - why pick an easy one? In full: The torrential rain and hail of the previous 24 hours miraculously stopped at the starting gun and we had 4 hours of great running weather. The course is tough and saps you when you need it least, but it's a rewarding run. Great marshalling, friendly crowd and what a fantastic finishing area, ok after the final cruel hill, but it was a really intimate finish area. Finally well done to the 10 in 10s, awesome! In short: Great course and a great time of year In full: Agree with earlier comments that bottled water would be a welcome addition....apart from that the event is spot on. Lovely course and the weather was perfect. Date of review: March 29, 2011

In short: A lovely route with a great downhill finish In full: Good organistion pre-race, collecting race number was a smooth process. After the initial shock of the hill start the route became a lovely trek through lanes and the park..finished off by a mile of speedy downhill stuff.... A good event. In short: Great Prep for a marathon and 'top marshalling' In full: This is a tough course but not suicidal, there are hills but none that bring you to a standstill. There is a fair bit of the course on busy major roads which does detract from the route but this was more than made up for by the marshalling and organisation. Lot's of smiles and encouragement along the way. Date of review: February 14, 2011
