In short: Spectacularly Gruesome for hard-as-nails-ego-lunatics or daft people In full: Hard to express just how very tough this event is. It certainly had me quivering in my shoes for a few days pre-race, worrying about a 16 mile cut-off of 3.5hours! It does state on entry that I 'can't be run', and it can't. Lower your expectations and enjoy a very special event. Date of review: June 24, 2012

In short: Gruesomely tough, and I just did the 29.5 mile marathon which was spectacular. In full: Straight up and walking in the first mile this was clearly going to be tough, but i still had to re-evaluate my finishing time TWICE during this event, and did a very good PERSONAL WORST AND still got a podium finish in this longer than usual marathon. Course route markers had been tampered with, so I did go astray a couple of times but not massively as its hard to get lost when your running by the sea! If you like em tough, like mixed terrain, challenging climbs and beautiful scenery then do some AdventureHub events. Date of review: March 23, 2012

2011 Saxon Shore Marathon - EVENT FULL
 | | Overall score | | 80% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 80% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 80% | | Value | | 100% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: A small and very friendly event very weather dependent, but glorious today. In full: A marathon double, I did just the one day. Nice early start, no hanging around. Out and back (approx. 6 miles) of scenic flattish gravel/smooth tarmac/option of running at edge of links golf course. Plenty of opportunity to socialise. Weather was perfect today, sunny throughout and barely a breeze - could easily be torrential storm but I was assured the event would go ahead regardless, which is nice to know. Entry fee may seem steep, but it is a charity event AND the organisers pushed the boat out with custom design race numbers, great medals with extra badges, technical shirt, booze, chocolate and lots of other good stuff. Spied a seal briefly offshore. Apparently not pre-arranged. I will very most likely return to do this again. Date of review: December 10, 2011

2011 The A20 Pathway 17.3

In short: Beautiful scenery even along the A20. Unseasonal warm weather was a big + In full: Comfortably undulating after the first climb up the downs around mile 4(?). Beautiful quiet and scenic lanes esp. in the glorious sunshine....but even cold and wet it would have still been a pleasant route. Water/feed stations/marshalls were great. A top event. 2011 Brentwood Multi Mile

In short: A scenic route on the challenging side with excellent organisation. In full: Half marathoners helped the first half fly by for me. The route is quite diverse, open field and shaded woodland, some challenging ups and downs too. Marshalls felt like old friends at the end. Will certainly consider repeating in 2012 and am investigating other Go Beyond events. Date of review: October 31, 2011

In short: A wonderful 26.2 miles of ups & downs mitigated by spectacular scenery. In full: A must-do 26.2 simply for the scenery. Throw in the arduous route, excellent organisation, clear signage, hymn singing, free coffee/tea at registration, jelly-babies, tech-T-shirt with your name on it, race number with your name on it, tech hat, superb medal, cooked breakfast (sadly I can't quite stomach this afterwards!), plenty of public support and camaraderie of fellow suffers then this is one of the very TOP marathons in the UK. All for £40. big bargain. when is entry for Picnic Dr.Rob?? Date of review: October 24, 2011
