In short: Great to have a half marathon in Kingston - but very twisty In full: This race was pretty good - I'm used to the breakfast run so it was nice to have a different event on offer and to challenge the half marathon distance. Parking, toilets, getting to the start, baggage drop etc was surprisingly easy (didn't feel like a massive event). The course itself, apart from being very flat, felt very twisty and turny, and my GPS made it 13.5 miles which was a bit of a shock at the end! We did have chip timing which is always welcome. Got lapped by the winner during loop 2 which was a bit offputting with the lead bike racing past us so early in the race! Water stops were fine, the course was very town centre but the odd bits along the river were more scenic (and better for the lungs). Excellent photography by Sussex Sport photography, and the best medal and goodie bag I've had in a long time (Bounce energy balls, crisps, marshmallow chocolate etc :) ). Speedy results, very encouraging friendly marshalls and all in all a nice satisfying half, thank you. Date of review: March 1, 2016
In short: Fantastic small trail half marathon - a local gem! (Shhhhh) In full: This race was brilliant. No mile markers and lots of jelly babies. Everyone beaming with enthusiasm. Beautiful, challenging course. Lots of bits where I couldn't see anyone! I also am rather fond of the out and back element - you get to see everyone on your way up / down. Great low key event - and lots of goodies too. A medal, a mug, a long sleeve technical tee AND a cooked breakfast at the end!!!! (And more jelly babies) thanks so much trionium! In short: This is a fantastic challenging small half marathon in the beautiful surrey hills In full: Brilliant stuff from Nikki and the ETL team. Excellent, cheery marshalls and helpers all round. LOVED the jelly babies at all the water stops. Such a special race, will keep coming back. Love Denbies for the start/finish too. Thanks for the free photos this year! Date of review: July 14, 2015
In short: Brilliant stuff again from Events to Live In full: This is a fantastic run. Challenging distance, beautiful scenery, enthusiastic marshalls, happy runners, jelly babies and a start/finish located in the beautiful Denbies vineyard. What more could you ask for? As for the run itself, I took it slowly and there were many parts after the first leg where I couldn't see anyone in front of me or behind! Not exactly a large field but this just added to the appeal. There was a queue at the stepping stones at the start which added to the friendly atmosphere as you got chatting to the runners around you. I ran in road shoes which were fine even for the muddy bog at the top of Ranmore. Superb atmosphere. I want to do it again already!
In short: Traffic, car park, start time = awful In full: This run would be beautiful starting with half as many competitors a few weeks later in the year with a 10am start and a decent car parking solution. And a full size mars bar at the end. And no roadworks on the M4. Race booklet says aim to get there 1 hour before, I say more like 2 and you might actually make the start! One where the enjoyment is definitely reserved for the locals... Date of review: September 27, 2009
In short: Great pre-Christmas leg stretcher In full: Nice late start for the senior ladies (1.10pm), who run separately to the men (and also half the distance) which adds to the event's attraction. It's a whole morning of running for all the family and, although it's always very cold, there is a great atmosphere and it's a fun day out. Thank you to the marshalls, who cheer on even the slowest runners, even if they have been stuck on a freezing cold hill all morning! Date of review: December 20, 2007
In short: Tougher than I thought it was going to be! In full: I did the half marathon this year. No wonder I found it tough - my garmin had a net climb from start to finish of about 300ft! I got the bus to the start despite not having prebooked so I was glad of that. Tough half marathon - difficult hills although I managed not to succumb to walking :) Great local race. In short: Great new race In full: Challenging off road 10k - was good because it was small (400 runners) and very well organised. There were loads of marshalls guiding the way, particularly in the downhill section near the finish where there were lots of tree roots etc underfoot. Beware last few k's as the paths were narrow, making it difficult to overtake. Enough toilets, water, parking. My garmin got it at just over 6.4k. Great race thanks! Date of review: September 23, 2007
